I find Case's "hold" category to be especially crapalicious. It should be an AAMC regulation that schools must either reject, waitlist, or accept you whenever they say they will. The "hold" nonsense just seems to me a means of getting the best of the non-rolling world while remaining on rolling admissions. At least schools that don't have rolling admissions tell you that there's no way you'll know till spring. Now I could get a note from Case anytime from here to April telling me if I got in. Errg. I just have to pretend like it's a waitlist and tell myself I won't actually hear anything till April. But I'm not listening to myself.

And yes, I know I should be happy I didn't get out-and-out rejected, but at least there'd be finality in that.

You can also be proactive and try to ween yourself out of the 'hold' category by sending in updates, new grades (if they're good), and letters of interest. If you show them how much you'd like to go there, they will more likely get you off that list.

You've heard from them already!?? I thought the committee wasn't even going to meet until tomorrow...

Anyway, sorry about the hold. Like the above poster said, just keep them updated and let them know you are still interested. I'm sure that will go a long way. Good luck!

Ugh...I'm in the same boat and it totally sucks. I'm definitely going to send them some more stuff. I'm hoping that if I bother them enough, they'll eventually make a damn decision. When did you interview? Mine was 11/19

I interviewed 11/22 and thought that they weren't going to meet until 12/13 (tomorrow). I got my letter yesterday and it was post-marked 12/9. Clearly they met earlier than we thought.

I've been kindof rummaging through last-year's threads on the subject and it seems that we're as close to a waitlist as Case has. They reserve the right to pull people off of the hold list anytime, but chances are we'll either be waitlisted officially or out and out rejected come April. Apparently a number of people are pulled off of the official waitlist at some point. Regarding hold list movement, vague rumors were that they don't give out many accepts before the new year and there're more come january, even off of the hold list. Nobody has actually posted on here that they personally were accepted off of the hold list before April, but aparently it happens.

If anybody else has spoken to the admissions office about it directly or have previous years experience with the hold list, we'd all love to hear from you! It seems that the consensus is to try to stick out in their minds and maintain an active interest.

cheers,

If it makes anyone feel any better, I am a Case undergrad with pretty decent stats. I am currently on the hold list, as are most the other Case undergads that applied. I interviewed during the first week of interviews and I was put on hold around 10/15 (or somewhere back then). I'm sure they will start to accept more once January rolls around. There's way more people that claim to be on the hold list here than were accepted staight up. We just have to hang in there for a little while.

I was on the hold list last year and I was put on it shortly after my interview in mid Nov. I can only tell you what I know from my experience and the experience of those I know. That being said, Case may say that they take people off the hold list before April but this is just not true. I and about four others I know were placed on hold shortly after they interviewed. Everyone I knew, including myself, sent in tons of updates, papers published, etc. This made no difference and so I went to talk to several I knew on the admissions committee. The three people I spoke to all basically said the same thing. They never accept people before the Wait-list is actually formed. They apparently interview far too many people and dont want to accept people off the hold list until they interview everyone they are interested in. Prior to talking with these people I assumed that the info I had "heard" was accurate and they actually would accept people off the hold list, apparently this was not the case and this was backed up by admissions people I spoke with. The hold list will be cut down in May and then the formal wait list will be formulated. I was wait listed last year and the four others I know were also, of those other four, two were eventually accepted off the wait list.

Where are you going now? If it's Case, when did you come off of the wait list?

I am in med school now in Philly, rather not say where. I didn't get off the Case wait list but I know of several that did. I think I heard last year that they took around 8 people off the list (thats just a rumor but I definitely know of two). I would just be patient, update them every couple months and then around March, every couple weeks. They also (atleast they used to, new admissions dean now) like volunteer and clinical stuff. Best of luck.
