Frustrating emailing doctors

Haha, I've been having a similar problem, but for an entirely different reason.

As part of my job, all this month I've been doing inventories at a bunch of hospitals for medications purchased through a government grant for emergencies. And all of them have to be done by the end of June. I've been busy emailing all the pharmacy directors to confirm dates, times, and availability, and the response rate is laughably low.

It's like, I know you're busy, but I've got a job to do, too!

I simply looked for large groups (North Texas Radiology Associates, whatever) and emailed the Contact Us email listed and asked to shadow. It took on average about 10 different institutions to find 2 different specialties I could shadow. Worked out fine for me though with two doctors we know and two doctors from cold emailing I got the hours and experience. Don't worry about most not returning your calls; the ones that did were super nice and I couldn't have asked for more.

Yea, the struggle is real, but it works out in the end.

If you're near an academic medical center, email the doctor's secretary (as someone said above). Even in medical school doc's take their time responding back (or don't respond at all).

Just ask to get an appointment they'll find time in the doc's schedule.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. There's the risk of the secretary blowing you off since they just don't understand jack, and then there's some who are more considerate. It's been both ways for me.

I really wanted to shadow a surgeon. I was a neuroscience major and I e-mailed a bunch of neurosurgeons with zero response. Since that wasn't working, I decided to e-mail some surgeons I had seen around the PACU, where I volunteered for a few months. When i mentioned working in the PACU, I got overwhelmingly friendly responses from 2/3 of the docs. Use any in you have. I think people just don't have any incentive to reply to a randy rando.
