Hey guys, I'm getting really frustrated with a professor that is "supposedly" writing me a LoR. I have had my Pharmcas app completely done for 3 weeks now. The only thing I am waiting on is this one LoR and I can submit it.
I asked him 2 months ago and he said he would get right on it.
I haven't asked him about it since but yesterday I was getting really worried so I went over to check on him.

BTW he is really hard to track down. Especially since I am not in his class this semester. He doesn't have office hours and he only responds to email. I tried giving him a little resume when I saw him but he said " I don't do paper" and to email it to him.

He never responded to my original email so I don't even know if he knows my email address or that I even emailed him.

So I waited outside his office for like 2 hours yesterday b/c that was the only way I was going to catch him. I finally caught him and he told me he would have it done today and to come by his office and it will be taped on the door.

I told him he had to submit it electronically and he said ok he would do it.
So, all day I'm checking my references online and he still hasn't submitted it and I went by his office and he had a paper taped to the door with some one elses name on it.

SOOO......should I wait a few more days..., email him, or wait outside his office again...

Sorry to hear your story, hope the professor can pay more attention to students' needs. Good luck!

I submitted my pharmcas application aug.31, I just got an email from pharmcas saying that they sent my app back to me because I did not state on the app that I attended Santa Monica College. I HAVE NEVER BEEN REGISTERED OR ATTENDED SANTA MONICA COLLEGE. I HAVE NEVER PUT DOWN THAT I HAVE ATTENDED THIS SCHOOL OR PLANNED TO ATTND.
FOR SOME REASON PHARMCAS SAYS ONE OF MY TRANSCRIPTS SAYS THAT I HAVE.
I TRIED CALLING THEM BUT THIER CLOSED TODAY. HAS THIS HAPPEND TO ANYBODY.....

Wow...

:hijacked:

I would find a back-up letter writer just in case.

you can submit your app without the LOR actually in. that what i did. he completed it a few days later, no problem.

BUT....i would get someone else. he doesnt seem like hes going to do it. or you can mail it in but it will take longer

They did something similar. They had one transcript filed as the wrong school, but not a phantom one like yours. They cleared it up quick. I just used the PharmCAS email and they wrote me back in a day or two. It was fixed with in a week.

First of all, you don't need to wait for his LOR in order to submit your PHarmCAS. Submit your PHarmCAS NOW!!

Second, if your professor says he will send it eletronically, it will appear in your PHarmCAS as submitted in the References section. It will appear right after he submits. THerefore it means he hasn't submit yet, which leads to my third opinion.

Third, this professor doesn't seem like he wants to write a LOR for you. Therefore I would tell him to forget it. A bad LOR is worse than waiting to get a good LOR from a professor who really likes you.

I was in same situation. Contact TA or chemistry department and find out if he is teaching a class or any other contact information. Sometimes they are packed with LORs and may take awhile to fill them all out. In my case the prof was backed up from tons of med/dental that were late and schools were waiting for him to complete them.

Anyway it is really a problem in some institutions to get LORs due to high amount of pre-health students, schools not really using LOR from pharmcas (if you apply to like 10+ schools you might end up needing 5 or more different LORs), and many professors ignoring LORs unless you have done research with them or was the top 10 in a class of 400).

But besides my rant, if he completely disappeared you need to find another professor since he probably either forgot or no longer care.

Can I really submit my application without his LoR?

I need his letter to fulfill most of my school LoR requirements.

Will it automatically update my application when he sends the letter later?

You can submit without his letter, however, you won't be able to change him as your recommender afterwards. PharmCAS forwards missing information like LORs to your schools. You might want to think hard about whether you want to keep him as your recommender tho if he has been procrastinating for months. As mentioned above, he isn't prioritizing this and it may show in the letter he writes.

you still can change the evaluator as long as he didn't submit anything after you E-submit.🙂

Actually you can change who is listed as an evaluator any time, even after e-submitting, as long as the evaluator has not yet submitted the reference. I got this info directly from PharmCAS.

Ahh, thank you. I stand corrected. 🙂

UPDATE

He emailed me today with the letter. He also electronically sent the letter to pharmcas.

I read the letter and he had a lot of very nice things to say about me. So I just submitted my application.
