Well I'll give my opinions to answer the OP and ignore all the other, um, stuff I just read.
Personally, I would not go to FSU because it is not accredited (sp) and that would make me nervous. But, that doesn't matter, because they are looking to recruit people from rural areas in north FL (panhandle) who will practice in the rural areas in FL. So I couldn't get in if I wanted to, because, as I stated in my AMCAS app, I am from South FL and want to practice in an urban area.
Dr Hill, which I guess is Mr Big Stuff at UF, told me in a private converstaion that the PIMS program, which recruited 30 transfers from FSU to UF in the past, has failed in their purpose, with only 7 of the 30 transfers going on to practice in a rural area.
He laughed that FSU failed in getting accredited and sincerely felt sorry for the students there because they are in somewhat of a limbo.
As far as FSU not having a good reputation for matching by the time they are accredited, it really doesn't matter. Because competitive residencies are NOT in the rural panhandle of Florida (or at least as far as I know), and that is where FSU gradutaes are intended to go.
So, if you have applied to FSU for the reason that they started a med achool and intend to practice in the panhandle, I would suggest you go if it's the only option you have. They probably WILL be accredited, but in time. If you do not want to work in a rural FL area, don't go there, b/c you will have trouble later on.
If I am mistaken in any of these facts, please correct me! I have only posted what I heard straight form the adcoms at UF yesterday🙂
