Well I'll give my opinions to answer the OP and ignore all the other, um, stuff I just read.

Personally, I would not go to FSU because it is not accredited (sp) and that would make me nervous. But, that doesn't matter, because they are looking to recruit people from rural areas in north FL (panhandle) who will practice in the rural areas in FL. So I couldn't get in if I wanted to, because, as I stated in my AMCAS app, I am from South FL and want to practice in an urban area.

Dr Hill, which I guess is Mr Big Stuff at UF, told me in a private converstaion that the PIMS program, which recruited 30 transfers from FSU to UF in the past, has failed in their purpose, with only 7 of the 30 transfers going on to practice in a rural area.

He laughed that FSU failed in getting accredited and sincerely felt sorry for the students there because they are in somewhat of a limbo.

As far as FSU not having a good reputation for matching by the time they are accredited, it really doesn't matter. Because competitive residencies are NOT in the rural panhandle of Florida (or at least as far as I know), and that is where FSU gradutaes are intended to go.

So, if you have applied to FSU for the reason that they started a med achool and intend to practice in the panhandle, I would suggest you go if it's the only option you have. They probably WILL be accredited, but in time. If you do not want to work in a rural FL area, don't go there, b/c you will have trouble later on.

If I am mistaken in any of these facts, please correct me! I have only posted what I heard straight form the adcoms at UF yesterday🙂

As always, my girl Foxy is the voice of reason. Ok, so I did some research, and this is what I found out about the situation at FSU. These are the facts as I know them. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Their first year (the traditional PIMS year) is already accredited by the LCME. They failed to obtain provisional accredidation of their second year curriculum last month, and have appealed the decision. As most of you probably know, FSU starts in May, not August. The LCME will have another meeting next month to decide on their appeal. If they win, great, things move on as planned. If they lose the appeal, then I get the impression that they're screwed for the time being. They don't interview many students as it is. Out of like 1000 applicants, they only interview about 100 for a class size of 40. Those who've been accepted during this cycle will be hesitant to committ, and understandably so given the uncertainty if the appeal is denied.

Yes, they do seek a certain type of applicant which Foxy mentioned, but they also take individuals who aren't interested in primary care. My friend is there, and he has no interest in practicing in a rural community, and he expressed this during his interview. Actually, I've heard that up to a third of the class is interested in non-primary care fields. Yes, there's a lot of instability, but come May, if they're the only shot you've got at being in medical school next year, it'd be tough to turn them down and go through this process a second time. Everything hinges on the LCME meeting next month. Stay tuned....

Doctora Foxy
Took a look at your pic. nice.
Papa smurf, i think you right on everything except that all students are thinking rural.
i interview up there and the students told me that 50% are going into some specialty. but if i were to interview down there and wanted to specialize then i would act the role of a family doc.
where do you guys and gals go to school?
Im from the center of the state

Why thank you! 😀

I'm from South Florida and I go to school near Boston.

As for me, I'm currently doing a year at Oxford. It's a bitch coming over to the states for all these interviews!

Papa Smurf,
you got to be kidding. Oxford. Are you for real. i come from a loser school.
As for Doctora Foxy, smart and good looking...not a bad combo.
where do ya'll think you will end up at.
Is big papa from Florida originally?

I do NOT go to Harvard! Just wanted to clarify <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> and my man Papi does not go toi Oxford

you need to chill your grill with all your lame ass talk. not even I started talking all that **** THAT early...you need to wait a few months before you can get away with that.

it always bothers old people when younger people act insolently. well it bothers the sdn veterans when young punks like you come on here disrespecting the more experienced veterans of the game. Papa Smurf is a very nice guy, so if you thought otherwise, you're mistaken. leave him alone, and stop talking **** about schools that you might not even get into if you applied. at your stage, you know very little, and you're on here to learn from us, and ask us (and to some extent each other--although this early, which one of you knows anything?) questions. so don't bite the hand that feeds you.•••••TRUE, Cave- The world would be a better place if more people heeded your advice.
Remember us Florida boys need to represent
