At work, we had a discussion about how NOT trendy we are. Is this a vet thing? Or are there some trendy vets/pre-vets out there?

Inspired by the interview attire thread (and taking your mind off checking the mail) - how many pairs of shoes do you own?

I wouldn't say I'm trendy, but I do love my shoes. I'm not going to count them, but I definitely have over 15 pairs. It's an addiction. 😉

I have alot of shoes in my closet, but not many that I actually wear. I wear my Dansko's everyday (to work and to the barn), a pair of winter boots that I wear when it is snowing and riding boots that I wear for riding. Everything else pretty much just sits in my closet!

Erm... I'll have to make a list... I'm only going to list the pairs that I have here with me at university...

Pair of green Converse hightops
Pair of red North Star hightops
Pair of North Star sneakers
Pair of boots
Pair of high heels
Two pairs of Keds flats
Two pairs of flipflops (do they count?)
Two pairs of Walmart whatever sneakers

That would be 11.

Sandals for summer
Dress shoes
Casual shoes
Work shoes
Work/All-Purpose boots

That's all I ever have a need for. I'm not a big shoe collector.. just the essentials 🙂

I definitely have a shoe(s) for every occassion! Although, my crocs are definitely my fave... fur lined ones for winter and cute mary jane ones for summer!

I have a fair few, but most are pretty utilitarian. To list off:

-beat up tennis shoes
-running shoes
-paddock boots
-hiking boots
-really cheap dancing shoes
-slightly nicer dancing shoes
-flip flops (2 pairs)
-black heels
-comfy, cute black flats (interview shoes!)

and RAINBOOTS. Those of y'all considering A&M will need them with our bad drainage and abundant rain

Now that they're listed, it seems like a lot. Really, I spend most of the time wearing flip-flops, but get good use out of all the others - and I hate shoe shopping

my mom likes to buy me shoes, which would explain my five pairs of chucks...

anyway, ironically, none of them are "girly" except for a pair of boots and a pair of dress shoes. mostly sneakers...

As for "trendy", not so much. I prefer the term "stylish" 😉, but that only applies when I actually have somewhere to go. My job is particularly dirty (more than the typical when dealing with animals), so when I'm not working, dressing up makes me feel girly. So here goes:

2 pairs snow boots
3 pairs nice boots
3 pairs tennis shoes/running shoes/softball shoes
2 pairs everyday easy shoes
5 pairs black heels (yes, they are all necessary!)
3 pairs other colored heels/dressy sandals
3 pairs flip flops
do slippers count?

😀

I have WAAAAYYYYY too many shoes. Let's just say, I could wear a different pair every day for a month. It's a pretty bad addiction, expensive one too. I happen to LOVE Sketchers, which are not that cheap 🙁. I'm not really trendy, but I like to look good in my clothes.

Haha, well I have a lot of "footwear" but I am not entirely sure how much of it classifies as "shoes." Like soccer cleats, snowboard boots, riding boots, slippers and rainboots (I have 4 pairs of rainboots alone, possibly 5). I mostly just wear my running shoes everyday though. I am really not very trendy -- my mom is the trendy one in my family and she is always whining about how I don't have enough nice clothes and never wear enough make up...

I have 10 (half of them are boots/sneakers/hiking), but I borrow a bit from my sister. She has a b'jillion.

I'd say 80% of my clothes would fit into the category of "wear something you can get dirty".

Why do I want it if I can't get it dirty? : )

Do beaten up old shoes count? I don't like to throw my old shoes away just in case I need them again.

Pair of green Lacoste sneakers
2 Pairs of low top cons (one black and one dark green with black soles)
Pair of New Balance running shoes
Pair of Adidas Stan Smith
Pair of leather sandles
Pair of thongs (flip-flops)

and for my old shoe collection

Pair of blue and yellow Lacoste sneakers
Pair of black and white check Vans
Pair of school shoes (red leather Doc Mary Janes)

OMG, you sound like my sister who wears nothing but sketchers. Dress sketchers, casual sketchers, they make it, she's probably got it (or at least something close)!

Do riding boots count as shoes? 🙂

-3 pairs paddock boots
-1 pair field boots
-2 pairs hiking boots
-1 pair Keens (that I LOVE and only have because I found them for 70% off)
-1 pair work boots
-1 pair running shoes
-1 pair slip-on type things
-2 pairs snow boots
-1 pair fencing shoes

Hmm...that's actually a LOT more than I thought I had. But I really do need to find some dress shoes. Any other women out there with giant-sized feet? What do you do to make your feet look...nice?

so if you tell someone that your vet school is 85% women and they don't believe you, just show them this thread

hmm.

1 pair crocs
4 pairs flip flops -- LOVE THEM! (had 5 - but I threw out the pair I could almost see through the heel)
1 pair ugly running shoes
1 pair sketchers
1 pair soccer cleats
1 pair paddock boots
1 pair field boots
1 pair daisy duke sandals...from halloween lol.
1 pair black sandals (never wear them though)
1 pair Birkenstocks clogs - LOVE THEM
1 pair emus
1 pair brown ballet flats
1 pair steel toed shoes
1 pair rainboots

and who knows how many more old pairs at home...

so that was more than i guessed. but i need more dress shoes..and a new
pair of DCs or converse all stars or something like that. and new paddock boots.

how many pairs of shoes do you own?
About 10. But I own two pairs of dress shoes (one flats and one with heels) one pair of tennis shoes, one pair of running shoes (change these every 3 mos or so d/t lots of miles and ankle probs) a pair of schooling "field boots" for english riding, a pair of the same but fancypants show quality, a pair of danner boots for my field work (which also doubles as my western schooling/colt starting boots,) a pair of fancypants cowboy boots for showing western, two pairs of flip-flops (one nice and one that goes with shorts and tank tops) and finally, my pride and joy, one pair of the following, procured for me for Christmas by Mr Orthonut:

Edit: forgot about the OR clogs. I have one pr of quarks and one pr of crocks, and one set of tall rubber boots for LA field surg/therio stuff.

Nike for walking around campus, Converse mono-black just to hang out, and
Asics Kayano for running. I'm a simple guy, but I won't buy any shoes.

so after seeing this little thread i thought i'd go ahead and count my pairs of shoes.... 57. lol. yikes! don't worry, i won't list them for you. i have about 10 pairs of flip flops though. haha

I have size 11 feet. Generally a high heel makes the foot look smaller and more dainty. But...I am not a fan of heels since I am already tall so my strategy involves wearing jeans or slacks with a slightly larger that average opening at the foot. Not bell bottoms or anything but a flare as opposed to a boot cut covers a little more of the foot and makes its ginormous size a little less obvious. 😛

How do the females on this board get along with having only one or two pairs of heels? I'm completely perplexed.

because i never get dressed up because all i do is sit in class all day.

and when i do need dress up, i wear flats or something with a chunkier heel cuz i cant walk in the damn things anyways! 🙂

I don't have any, cuz I don't feel like I need to be any taller than I already am!

I only ever buy boot cut, but then again, I'm only a 9/9.5. The key is just to find the right "style" of boot cut with the right length. Usually when I find the right combo, I buy a couple pairs since pants shopping is pain!

I don't own a pair of heels. I'm 5'9.5" in socks. I have a pair of black ballet-ish Mary Janes for the very rare occasion I need to look decent. I can't afford to go out or buy dressy clothes as long as I'm working as a tech and trying to get out of debt/save for school.

Otherwise I mostly wear my Mary Jane-style crocs with my scrubs.

I have no idea, but definitely more since I entered the professional world a bunch of years ago. If I had my druthers, all I'd wear would be sneakers and flip flops (weather permitting). But now I have black boots, black flats, black sandals for summer, brown boots, brown flats, brown Doc Martin-ish shoes for when I can get away with a more casual work look, tan heels, pink sandal heels 🙂)), and maybe assorted others that I don't wear. I like clothes shopping but not shoe shopping. Now that I have all of the above shoes, I'm good. But when I first had to buy shoes to go with my work clothes, I was very bummed. Nothing quite as annoying as having to shop for something.

Oh, not to mention riding boots, work boots, sneakers for the stables, hiking boots...you know, the typical functional ones. So, a bunch. But for the most part, they all have their function (except my 2 pairs of cute sneakers, one blue and one pink/grey...those are just for fun).

This is how you know you are going into a female dominated profession when a question like this is asked on the message boards.

I lived 47 steps from the science building for two years and I never wore anything to school except my Rainbows flip flops (best investment EVER!). This year, I have to walk a little over a mile, though, so I've finally broken down and wear real shoes in sub-freezing temps for the sake of my toes. I didn't think I had that many pairs of shoes because I only ever wear 2 of them, but apparently I do.

1 pair Rainbows
1 pair running shoes
1 pair old running shoes/now missions trips shoes
1 pair hiking boots
1 pair uggs (I've had them since 6th grade, though, so they've seen better days)
1 pair riding boots
1 pair brown clogs
1 pair black church shoes
1 pair knitted slippers to wear around the science building (yes, I have the greatest big sister EVER)

I think that's all of them...

omg that steve madden design your own shoe website is amazing! uggs of every color!

2- Work sneakers and my vans.

I'm a weird Teen! LOL.

i'd rather wear flats than do faceplants.... 😛 😀

5'9 and all i wear is heels out. unless i'm wearing riding style boots out. but cornell is one of those dress-up to go to the bars kind of places. don't know why. if i could, i'd live in my rainbows. otherwise, i spend a significant portion of my time in my ugg mocs or my minnitonka mocs ... i should revise my post, i think i do have more than 15 pairs of shoes.

Sadly, I can't even wear half of my shoes. :-/

- Crocs
- Doc Martin boots
- Old pair of Wolverine boots
- Tennis shoes
- Dressy-ish brown shoes
- Rubber boots
- VANS (had them for over 4 years - man, they never wear out!)
- Flip flops

Of those, I really only wear my Doc Martins, Crocs, and tennis shoes on a regular basis.

I own far too many shoes from my recent past (try ~40 pairs) when I spent more time going out and caring about my appearance. I don't need them and ought to donate them to a women's shelter ASAP (before they are out of style).

In the last couple of years I have become a lot less materialistic and concerned about clothing. I also refuse to wear anything that is uncomfortable.

So if I were to answer this question later, I'd probably be in the under 15 range, for sure.
