I don't know if this has been mentioned yet on the forums.....

At first, I was bummed to learn that GW was a PGY 2-3-4 because I'm looking to go to that area and because I don't want to apply for another residency as an intern. But GW is currently applying to become a 1-4 this year and they will get final word in October (this is info I got from the PD). So if you were interested in GW but did not want to apply to a 2-4 like me, this is good news. ERAS has GW currently listed as a categorical as well and will be on my list when I submit it on Sept 1.

UAB is awaiting RRC approval of their change to the 1-4 format.
I too, think that 2-4 is likely going to phase out fairly quickly. Too many kids don't want to go to scut hell that is a prelim year at some programs.

Plus 1-4 programs have more months in the ED on average than 2-4 programs. Many transitional years only have one or two months in the ED.

If GWU doesn't get approved to go 1-4, they should still be able to guarantee you a prelim medicine spot there... which at least gets rid of the inconvenience of potentially doing your intern year somewhere else... the inconvenience of a prelim medicine year is a different subject...

I'm not so sure, unless they have that written out as such.

He is correct. I'm a pgy1 starting at GW next year and unless things changed this year if you match at GW in EM all you have to do is rank their prelim program and you get a spot. I opted to do mine elsewhere but alot of my future classmates are there right now. Good luck

Boston Medical Center has no plans to change...which I think is unfortunate.

i doubt cook county will change, but they have that "wink-wink" agreement with the prelim med program.

So it's official...GW is now a 1-4 in case you haven't heard.
