Yes, I only read Determination's post once, I took it to mean he was attacking me for saying Morehouse was just an HBC and it didn't belong here. That is not what I was saying. Now that I read his and my posts again I realize that this is not the case. (and maybe a little controversy could keep the thread from falling to page 6 again; just kidding)

That's what they said, but I didn't hear anything today. And to top it off I got a rejection from UT San Antonio 👎
Oh yeah my bad, the meeting was today. I didn't think I'd hear anything for at least a few days, I'm just impatient 😛 And another thing my adcom member was about to go onto a mission trip like the day after he interviewed me I think, so I'm not sure how they'd deal with that....

Well if he was leaving the next day, you wouldn't think he would be there to comment on you at the meeting.👎thumbdown👎 On the other hand, they almost certainly wouldn't wait on him to come back so he could call you, I don't think. I bet they got him to write all of his comments down to be read at the meeting like the nonAdComs. Just speculation, though.
That's more or less what I figured. Not sure if it would be good or bad to not be fully represented, kinda thinking it's bad...

Yeah, I actually took a trip to visit my friends in other states a couple of days ago because I knew I would go crazy waiting for the call from Mercer today. While I was driving back to Atlanta today, I was kept on looking at my phone since 6:00 PM. When my mom called at 6:50 PM, I thought for 0.5 second that it was Mary Putnam.

no call either. Also, I think they are slowing down with the acceptance rates. At my interview they said that...Ms. Putnam also said not to expect to hear anything before the 8th
So, if I interview at MCG on Feb 22, and it takes at least a month for them to either accept me or deny me, what the hell is the point of interviewing there if I am already accepted to Mercer?

Whenever they opened up AMCAS, I had it filled out and turned in immediately. MCG sent me the secondary like two days later, and I had it finished 2 days after that.
That's how long I've been finished at MCG.

Who knows man. I guess if I were you I'd just go ahead and go to mcg to keep your options open if nothing else. I've heard of rare cases where people were accepted within a week or so at mcg, but yeah, a month sounds about right if you're lucky. Last year I think I interviewed at mcg around when you're going and was waitlisted. Honestly I'm not sure if mcg even sends rejections after being interviewed 😕

I finished my secondary to mcg in august and haven't heard yet. I'm not a particularly strong student, though, and so am not banking on it
That sucks about MCG.... if it makes you feel better I've been complete at Mercer since mid-december and I actually haven't heard from them yet.

So at least we're going in the right direction. Though all these people are like, "congrats on the interviews." I want to scream at them, "Yeah but no acceptances!" 😡
so mercer interviewees can hear on only Wednesdays after the meeting? Anybody accepted in other days?
I don't think that is true. I was accepted on a Thursday, which was two days after the meeting (which was on a Tuesday.)

Wait a minute, I am actually not sure when the meeting was. The meeting may have been on Wednesday, in which case I was called the following day at about 6:00. I was actually a little bit pissed on our MCG day because I thought I would have heard by then. I interviewed 12/6 @ Mercer, I: 12/12 at MCG, and A:12/13 @ Mercer. So it would make sense that the meetings are on Wednesday.
If you get a call, will you be able to say anything? My AdCom didn't outright say that I was accepted, he picked up our conversation from the previous week and BSed around with me for maybe 10-15 min before he said I was accepted. I spent the whole time trying to figure out if he was messing with me or what. I was very confused.
Yeah I'm at home. As long as I don't have some kind of nervous breakdown I should be able to hopefully keep up a coherent conversation.
Again, we were told not to expect a call until at least friday. Also, I imagine it differs depending on what adcom member is responsible for you

Wow guys, this is the fourth time in the last week that I got to the SDN medicine mainpage and our thread was the last updated. That, and we are into 10 pages! Pretty cool, considering there are at most ~12 regular posters. I still don't understand how people like dd128 rack up such a high post count, though.
Here's a question: do you guys plan on staying in Georgia for your residency? How about in practice? Do you think that people generally go to residencies where they plan on living?

everyone that i have seen in the thousands is a moderator of some kind. Do you think you will be asked to be a mod? Do you think you will still post on SDN all the time after you get an acceptance? Did you apply to any osteopathic, like GA-PCOM? What are your thoughts on Osteopaths? But I think you will get into Mercer at least. (wait, are you from ATL?)
I've seen a fair amount of people in the thousands. The moderators are all volunteers from what I hear so I'm not sure how good a gig it really is. I doubt I'll be on here quite as much should the magical day come along where I gain accepted, but I'm sure I'll probably do a fair amount of lurking.
Honestly I don't know tons about osteopaths, I probably should have applied to a couple, but I think up until recently I had the premed stigma that DO's were somehow inferior (which I no longer do), but was to late to put any apps for this time around. Osteopaths work right alongside doctors and go through the same schooling, now I know some schools are a bit shady, but on the whole I'd have no problem attending an osteo school.

The students I met there were awesome, the interviewers were awesome, and that school has it going on IMO.
It just scares me about certain residencies. Bottom line, you can do what you want at a DO school. Just study hard and you'll get your specialty.
But still, there's more that goes into it than just studying hard. My interviewers even told me that.
There are some extra hoops to jump through, perhaps taking an extra set of boards too, and then no matter what, some of your colleagues might think less of you. Sure, you can be a great doctor and your reputation will be built by your patient interaction, but there are some shallow people out there and I just personally don't want to have to deal with that.
For instance, after my acceptance to PCOM, I was speaking with a cardiologist about med school. I'm friends with his sons, and he was at a party one night so I was talking to him about everything.
I was like, "What do you think about DO's?"
"Well, a DO is just a guy that couldn't get into a regular MD school."
I just don't feel like dealing with that ****, plus the DO school is the farthest school from my home, so I'm not going there.

does that mean you live in south GA? me too! I would have liked to have visited the school, but like so many others, I didn't know anything about DO when I applied. But I am guessing the cost is comparable to Mercer/Emory? Do you know?
Edit- your cardiologist friend expresses the same sentiment as my uncle and many doctors I know. Do you think it is generational/regional? Or will Allopathics always feel this way?

Also, to POLYNIKES. hope i answer u question about why it takes so long at MCG.
If someome interviewed on a date which is closer to their ADCOM meeting date, then that person would hear earlier than other people. So it all depends on whether u interview on a date closer to their adcom meeting date or not. So, it can take month or week depending on that. Also, as decision deadline comes closer ADCOm are going to meet more often than they used to.
ALSO, most of the interviewers at MCG before JAN had MCAT score greater than 30. I can guess that because If you go back to the beginning of this thread and read carefully, all the people who interviewed had MCAT score greater than 30 except for URMs.
Ms. Putnam said that the earliest would be today...and then not to bet on it. Smart money is on sometime in the later half of next week, especially given that dd's adcom was traveling.
I wouldnt entirely count out that idea; I doubt Ms. Putnam is a voting member of the committee, but I would be shocked if she didn't have some role (secretary etc.) and I am positive she has influence. She's been there a long time, and I get the impression she is well liked.

My interview was at the end of January. I talked to Mrs. Putnam yesterday, and she told me to be patient. She said it in a very nice way. She's the kindest person that I ever met!
From my conversation with her, it seemed that we will only hear back on Wednesdays after meetings. She told you that you guys might hear back today? I guess that's the difference between the recent interviewees and old interviewees.
I am not so sure how this thing works. So some people get picked right after two weeks. What about people who didn't get picked right away?

From reading the many of the other posts, my impression is that Wednesday is the day as well. However, we were told the 8th. I'm not sure what to make of the discrepancy, but I am sure that it will work itself out.
Who knows? Has anyone else called? I think DD is one of the only other people like us, still waiting to hear from Mercer.
This is certainly the case in this thread, but I've spoken with people below 30 and not minorities who've interviewed before jan. It depends on a lot of factors for getting an interview and acceptance.

I hadn't called her, I want to, but I'll probably just try to be patient. She had told us the meeting was on the 6th, but nothing about when we'd hear back. When you think about it, there isn't a reason for the committee to contact you with news of acceptances. Many schools do not do this, and it's just an extremely nice courtesy that's seem to have come from the admissions person who represented each person during the committee meeting. I may be mistaken though. Has anyone ever gotten an acceptance call from ms. putnam?
yes, people have gotten acceptance calls from her! It is going to be a long wait.
I don't think the 30 mcat over thing is really a rule but maybe just a trend. And I agree that it is all relative to when you turn your application in but I was complete at mcg in mid-december and heard back around new year's.
Actually, I thought I remembered her saying she just moved down from new york or something a couple of years ago when she retired.
