Yeah, I am also very well-aware of the meeting on Wednesday. I wonder how many people will get in this time? I still don't know how the selection process works. So, is everybody, including the recent interviewees, reviewed at a meeting on Wednesday? I am guessing they have complied a list of "high chance" applicants who didn't get picked immediatelyfrom previous interviews from October to January . So, during the meeting, the committee will review the recent interviewees and the "high chance" applicants. What do you guys think?

Good luck to everyone!!!!!

By the way, is anybody who got admitted to both MCG and Mercer choosing Mercer over MCG? And why?

Yeah I've heard anecdotes of this, but never a first hand case.

Here is an interesting article on how anatomy class materials were secured in the 1800's.

http://chronicle.augusta.com/history/grave.html

This may explain the senior ring.

That's insane! And you mcg couldn't have been the only school doing that. I'm just waiting for the article that talks about a school that was buying live slaves for their anatomy lessons 😱

I know that my name hasn't even come up in the process yet. My guess is that Mercer is still reviewing the top tier candidates (which I know I am not). The people that have been accepted so far are mostly 3.5+gpa, and good MCATs. When they get to the 2nd tier, then I expect to be brought up...hopefully that will be this 'cycle', and it will go well!

Also, this is just speculation, but I think they have interviewed more people than they generally do this year. They have an additional 30 spots to fill, after all. I would expect that they are behind, and that this is going to be a long wait.

Do mcg and mercer waitlist everyone post interview, or do either ever send flat out rejections?

I dont know about that one

So I emailed ms. devaughn about how the school treats intent letters and she said it was fine, but that the intent was usually expressed in amcas, secondaries, and during the interview. And if I wish to send it that it will be added to my file. I may have mentioned it in the interview, but not p.s. or on secondaries. Do you think they'll think I'm just yanking them and not take it seriously?

I would wait a little longer before puttin on the full court press

haha, yeah I was going to wait until the waitlists come out before any drastic measures.

What do you consider a "good" MCAT? I know people who have had a high GPA or good MCAT, but not both, who have been accepted already. Mercer is looking for more than just statistics anyway. Every school is, but Mercer especially. Just because you have what you consider "good" numbers doesn't mean you will be accepted, and vise versa.

Well you never know. It wouldn't hurt to send it now. By the way, how is the mercer interview? I have mine in a couple of days.

Yeah this is true. So, I'm in the good gpa bad mcat category 🙁 I'm hoping they look past it.

I don't want to generalize, but they don't seem to be too bad, at least mine wasn't. They just want to talk with you. Be prepared as there is one gentlemen who really likes to talk and you could possibly be facing an hour to hour and a half chat 🙂 If you get a 4th year, they usually seem to take you on a personal tour in addition to the quick one given after lunch. The people are quite friendly, so if you get lost or something you can stop just about anyone and they'll help you. When I got to the hospital I was wandering around trying to figure out where to go and this one lady I passed noticed and took me to where I was going. It was funny because later on my tour I saw her again, and she asked me how I was doing.

is this your thought or her exact words in email

Here's what she told me:

"It's fine to send a letter of intent, however, that information is usually shared
in the AMCAS application, secondary application and interview.
If you wish to send it, we will be happy to add it to your folder."

I could see sharing it in secondaries and interview, but it doesn't seem as feasible in the primary.

Your def right about "good" numbers not guaranteeing acceptance, but I think that the people being accepted are still in the right range (29+ MCAT) etc.

It will be a long week!

Well, I have been accepted to Mercer and have lower than a 29+ MCAT, so really, you can't assume anything. After an interview invite, it really depends on if they think you are "one of them" (mission-oriented, personality, etc.).

Again, I don't know as much how other schools work, but I can tell you right now that I personally know of classmates who were accepted with anywhere from an MCAT of 21 to an MCAT above 30. The mean MCAT is no secret...you can find last year's average on their web-site. It is usually 27, 28, or somewhere in that range. So if you do not get accepted don't assume it was your MCAT (though as with any school having that piece of the admissions "puzzle" certainly helps).

As far as wait-list letters. At Mercer they don not automatically send you a wait-list letter. It is a ranked list with about 70 names (though I expect there to be slightly more this year since there are 30 more slots for admissions). In a given year you can usually count on them moving through at LEAST half of the list.

Good luck!

Congratulations on your acceptance!

May I ask when you interviewed and when you heard?

I really enjoyed my interview at Mercer. Have you read the interview feedbacks on the school here at SDN? that pretty much describes everyone's experiences.

People were very friendly and nice; the only stressful part of the day was figuring how to get to the different interviews (I'm terrible w/ directions).

Good luck, I'm sure it will go well and that you'll enjoy it!

Congrats ashes 👍 Goodluck to everyone hoping to hear something today from mercer :luck:

My cell is on its highest volume. But I still keep checking that I might have missed a call.:scared:

I interviewed in early January and got the acceptance call about 2 weeks after that. Good luck tonight guys!

ditto. I'm worried that blackberry is going to have another outage around 6 😛

I heard that if they call you with an acceptance and you don't answer, they cancel your acceptance.

just kidding

Not only that they ban you from ever applying to their school ever again! And if that isn't bad enough they call mcg and tell them you are a poopoo face.

Has anyone heard anything from Mercer today? I interviewed there on Vday and was told today is the first meeting since. My undergraduate GPA is 3.4, my MCAT is 35+, I'm doing a postbacc right now and have been doing well in medical classes. I'm worried that I didn't come off as wanting to stay in Ga strong enough during my interview. Well, good luck to all.

PS: Is MCG still giving out interviews/about how many spots do they still have open? I've yet to receive an interview from there yet.

I've heard of people on here getting rejections that haven't interviewed yet, so if you haven't got one there may still be a chance. I'm not too sure how much longer they interview, maybe another couple weeks??? Anyone else?

and being able to see disneyland (but you can't get there because the water is poisoned, there are several large sharks in the water, and you don't have any arms.)

 that was awfully specific....

I've already been called twice in the last two hours by non-Mercer related people.:boom:

wtf, who calls from private numbers anyway???

my general physician used private number when calling me to do shadowing- its kinda funny to me since I nanny for a doctor and also have several cell numbers from doctors that I shadowed down at Emory

Good luck guys! Hope you gets some calls soon!

Mercer's interviewing applicants until like March 26. I wouldn't be surprised if MCG went that long too.

Yeah I don't know, I remember hearing somewhere that we would hear by april 1st, maybe it was only in my head

I remember Ms. Putnam saying that they often wait until the day after the 'meeting day'. So we'll be playing this this painful waiting game again tomorrow. Hurray!

I believe bodonid said he got his call the day after a meeting as well???

I sure hope so...

I guess one of the things that bonds the medical community so tightly together is all of these awful experiences that are commonly shared.

I have a Cell Bio test in two hours and this waiting scenario is the worst possible thing for me right now. OK I'll go punch a baby in the face. It always makes me feel better.
