Wow. Do you think that the totally integrated PBL gives you guys an edge?

Very unlikely. Or do you mean an edge with Step 1?

Here is the list I hope.

Maybe someone you know.

I will have to change my posting name after May 9th graduation day.

25 States and the District of Columbia. Hawaii to Boston to Florida to Washington State to Texas to Colorado to Utah to Minnesota to California to New York to Chicago. So much for keeping them in the State of Georgia.
53 in the State of Georgia out of 169 resident appointments.

Good luck to each of you. I hope this information makes you understand the process a little bit better.

I don't know if you can judge by residency appointments. I really want to do my residency at NYP, but I intend on coming back to GA.

Generally speaking you can.. It's something like you have a 75% chance to practice in the region that you do your residency in. Even more for a fellowship.

I'm not sure on the exact stats but it's well known that with each step of your education you are more likely to end up where you last were.

Apparently, there are not enough residencies, in Georgia, for medical students that graduate from the state of Georgia. It's one of the reasons that MCG is trying to get more residency sites (Gainesville, Brunswick, Columbus, etc). More residency sites might equate to more people staying in the state for their training. If anything, it'll increase the number of physicians that are trained in Georgia and thus potentially more physicians staying in GA (even if they are not from GA schools).

BUMPing from the third page.

Mercer's Match list looked pretty impressive for a "primary care" school. Congrats to those who have worked hard and matched into what they wanted. Hopefully the GA match lists in 4 years has our name on it.

Anyone receive correspondence from MCG. Still waiting....

Can we apply for away rotations anywhere we want in 3rd year? Anyone know?

At MCG you can do rotations pretty much throughout the state.

I know, that is pretty much a must. But do you think we could apply for an OOS rotation, if MCG has no affiliation with the hospital?

I think you can do 1 rotation out of state during the 3rd year and you can do all of your rotations out of state/country during the 4th year.

One of the girls on this years MCG match spent 6 months doing her rotations in Bosnia during her 4th year.

Is this only for MCG, or does Mercer allow away 3rd year? I know a few guys did 2 away rotations 4th year at Mercer. I've heard sometimes it is more pressure doing away rotations. The professors expect the student to be giving "100%" on an away, so any slack is really frowned on. If you have mediocre board scores, then an away rotation is a good audition for a potential residency. Otherwise, 2 away rotations is probably more than enough. More than 2 can cause undue stress and fatigue. Disclaimer: This is what I've been told. Obviously, I haven't been there, yet.😀

Daughter did a rotation in the following cities in Georgia.

1. Atlanta
2. Decatur
3. Rome
4. Covington
5. Marietta
6. Thomasville
and others

When I posted of an away rotation, I am referring to doing a rotation with another school. I am not talking about doing rotations with preceptors for your own school, such as AHEC sites.

Just to clarify.

hey guys, what other allopathic schools that are GA residents friendly? besides the one in GA? lol

What other state's med schools are friendly to Georgia residents? Is that what you're asking?

But you asked this same question 4 days ago in this thread and got some helpful responses, no?

can anyone please help? what other DO schools are GA Residents applying to? I know the one in Atlanta. What else? Is there other DO schools that don't mind having or maybe even favor GA residents??? Please help. Thank you

He asked for ALLOPATHIC schools in this post. The previous post referred to OSTEOPATHIC medical schools.

To answer armymt's question, there are few public MD schools that have no in-state resident preference--SUNY Upstate is one of them. Even private MD schools give some weight to in-state applicants, but those would be your best bet for applying as a nonresident. If you live in North Georgia, then you may have some help at East Tennessee, for they seem to like OOS Appalachian apps. The same goes for Eastern Virginia. Other than that, it's tough to apply to nearby MD schools as a nonresident.

Do you have any ties to other states? If you grew up in another state, most of your family lives there, your spouse's family lives there, etc. you may have better results in applying to that state. Most state schools are looking to matriculate people who are likely to practice in the same state. Private schools are not as restrictive for the most part. But, many still have some leaning towards/seemingly regional preferences. The best thing is to consider places you would be willing to attend/live, and then research that school's website, info, etc.

Goodluck.

This might sound like a silly question. But does anyone know what the shape of the mcg acceptance/waitlist letters look like? Classic fat/thin envelope or what not?

Accepted is fat
Waitlist is 2-3 pages of normal paper.

yes, but I think there is a little difference between DO and MD schools

Thank you, I am originally from Saipan, an island next to Guam in the pacific. I came to America when I joined the Army. So Georgia is like my 1st place to live here in America as a resident. Thanks, I am thinking about applying to all the Georgia schools, USUHS, and a few other schools. If I don't get in, I'll probably just go back to active duty. Thanks for your help!

KNOCK KNOCK Where is my acceptance?

What happened to DD128???

Oh where oh where did the mnm go?
oh where oh where can (s)he be?

DD, are you sold on Texas or if you get into Mercer will you reevaluate? Wednesday is a few away, after all

heh. I'm not going to worry about mcg too much right now. I'm guessing that anyone who interviewed later than mid january is going to get lumped into the "final batch" of letters. I have a friend who have awesome stats (34 mcat/3.99 gpa from tech) that interviewed in the last week of Jan. He hasn't hear anything yet. (According to him, he did really well in his interview too.)

Yeah I interviewed in early November, and still haven't heard, thought I did great on my interview and had decent stats for MCG.

Also one of my friends interviewed a day after me and had a 37+ MCAT and still hasn't heard either.

HE is here! I've been busy with work and whatnot. I'm pretty sold on Texas right now. I may reevaluate things if an mcg acceptance were to cross my path, but I'm sort of in love with the Texas medical center in Houston! I liked Mercer, but I liked Houston more.

ha ha. Congrats again any way!

Best of luck with work

lol, I'm not too worried about it. Just doing enough to keep from getting fired for the next few months 😀

lol, Maybe we should take a poll to see how many people are doing just enough to keep from getting fired vs trying to leave a lasting impression of being the best employee your employer has ever had.

OR, maybe some already said, "take this job and shove it, I ain't workin' here no more!!"

I would love too say the last, but finances won't allow that for me.

Can we include not wanting to do college coursework? Seriously I think once someone is accepted to med school it should equal instant graduation.

Haha, yeah I'm in the same situation. I have bills and stuff that didn't seem to notice I got an acceptance to med school

called MCG - said that decision letters are going out right now and will be ongoing for the next few weeks. acceptances are still be offered, but they are sending out rejection and waitlist letters now too. if we don't hear a decision by april 15th, we should call. hope that helps!

My stomach is staying upset. The postman has taken out a restraining order (not really). And, from what I read in the previous years post, we may be waiting for another 3-4 weeks.......oh well, maybe I'll go follow the postman around some more. haha.

I figure that I'll be getting my letter atleast a week behind the Augusta people. So, I'm just going to monitor these boards until someone else finds that first, all-so-elusive letter.

Good luck guys!

:hardy:

Ahhhhh this wait is killing me! I don't suppose they said when they *started* the mass mailing of acceptances, did they? Up until now I was a little nervous... now my stomach is doing backflips :scared:

only premed students actually clarify their jokes instead of leaving it for the public to assume it is a joke in the first place 🙂

I am so nervous!!! The next couple of weeks are going to be pretty stressful.

haha, well unfortunately when it comes to premeds that situation is entirely possible 😛

lol, I'm definitely busted. The sad part is that I've been out of school for several years.

Does anyone think that MCG may send decision letters to the early interviewees first, out of courtesy? I interviewed late last month, and I wouldn't be surprised if those who interviewed in October and haven't heard back would find out sooner. Just a thought.

I doubt that. They had 9 meetings and are prob. sending these letters out in the order that they were accepted. Early interviews, at this point, don't mean that much.

That's my guess. Also, I interviewed last year in October and didn't hear anything until April.

This is horrible. I interviewed 5 months ago, for God's sake. Give me some closure, MCG.

Should be a big day for Mercer hopefuls tomorrow! I'm wishing everyone out there good luck and to not fret if you don't get a phone call, that waitlist is bound to move A LOT but it'll take some more time to get some closure.

Looks like we're coming upon post 1000 for this thread! Better be an acceptance! Although, that just may kill this thread for the next 2 weeks...

*sigh*

Good luck to all you guys waiting for good news today! :luck:

Yes We Can

-Call for a more transparent application process, where each individual knows where they stand at all times

-Demand that schools disclose all information relevant to an individual's application and their purported timeline

(Let the thousandth post be one of hope and change)
