haha, if you really want to be cool, let it go to voice mail, wait a few minutes then call back sounding very annoyed and busy And when they tell you you've been accepted just give a long pause and say, "ok thanks." before hanging up and screaming your lungs out 👍

They wait until the end unless you are horrible. I'm guessing there are 400 people waiting for Mercer and MCG.

i don't have the highest stats - 3.4, i'm hoping for a 33 mcat

i like both schools... i just want to get in somewhere. do you guys think i've got a better shot going EDP at mercer as opposed to EDP at MCG?

i'm going to also apply to a few DO schools but i would love to go to either mercer or MCG

by the way, im an upper middle class guy from gwinnett and i don't have a history of serving the underserved (except for two mission trips in high school... do people put high school stuff on AMCAS.. seems like a stretch to me)

not usually hs stuff on the amcas, but I included a mission trip in my Mercer 2ndary (they ask for 20 ECs on the 2ndary) but probably not on primary.

Mercer prefers people that aren't from around ATL, but that isn't all that significant.

I don't think you have a great shot at MCG with that GPA. Much better chance at Mercer, but everything hinges on that MCAT.

I would definately apply to a couple of backup schools like GA-PCOM if you don't care which route you go. A 3.4 isn't impossible, but very tough.

Wait to see you how you do on that MCAT, then start worrying about it. Just focus on this next step in front of you, and study VERY hard.

I actually did use highschool stuff, oops, lol. Anyway I would say that it depends on the strength of the experience in high school. For me I had probably over 500 hours of volunteer work in highschool and many of them were very unique. They actually mentioned several of them in my Mercer acceptance letter. So I would use discretion with high school activities, keep unique and long term ones, but thats just my opinion on the matter. As for EDP I have no clue how that really works, what are your chances and what not. I think it really depends on the MCAT.

MCG will be a ghost town next week. It is spring break. They take it because the Masters is being played that week. I would not expect a lot of activity from them during this time.

I was wondering how some MCG students can manage to rent out their place for a couple grand during Masters Week AND still go to class....I guess if spring break falls on that week, then it's an easy way to make money.

Thanks! That is really really good to know. Right now I'm trying to come up with $2,000 for GA-PCOM and I'm considering selling my car. I'm happy I got in somewhere, but a $100 deposit would be so much cooler. Good luck to everyone!

You have a twin that just asked about his/her chances...

You have a good chance if you rock out on the MCAT, but anything below 3.5 is going to hurt you. I had a 3.58/3.53, and I can't tell you how much it helped for me to be over 3.5. If you have that much of an upward trend, you may have a shot at MCG, and maybe even >50% chance at Mercer with >31, but you will need backups as well, should you be deferred to the regular decision pool. Good luck with the MCAT.

First of all, I can't believe that SOMEONE on this site has not received a call. The odds are staggering.

Patrick - My friend scored a 37 on the MCAT, 3.3 GPA = No interviews at Mercer, MCG, Emory, or anyplace else. He is headed to AUC for Med School now. another friend with two degrees, 33 MCAT, high GPA (not sure exactly) landed interviews at all the Georgia schools and ... no calls yet. So you never know what the heck the ADCOMS are looking for.

The only thing I am sure of at this point is that I have not been called. I do know that if I see the woman that showed up 15 minutes late to the interview session in Mercer's White Coat ceremony I am going to be really ticked-off!

It's already bad enough that I received an email from my ADCOM member a week ago telling me that he was excited about me starting medical school at Mercer and that he thinks I will be a great fit... ??? I wrote him back and asked him if he knew something I didn't because I had not heard anything official. He responded later stating how sorry he was that he mixed me up with another person with the same first name!!! Good thing I wasn't on the phone calling everyone I knew after the first email. How lame was that?

I am still holding out hope for the wait list. Maybe at this point they might have some pity on me after the email debacle. I doubt it was brought up in Wednesday's adcom meeting! As if this process wasn't stressful enough.

I second this. If you don't have any luck even with a high MCAT, then you should look into post-baccs. Not just the expensive formal ones like Georgetown, but state schools like UGA or Kennesaw as well. Your ECs seem to be in good shape, so if those early grades are what's keeping you down then a post-bacc could help.

This cycle's Mercer class must be outstanding. So many of you on here are excellent candidates, I was certain several would get a call. Well, now all I can hope for is a waitlist letter!

Like most medical schools, having good grades+MCAT is not necc. going to get you in. For a school like Mercer, they look for things that many of us may not even think of.

It's why they don't even interview people with a 3.9 and a 38 MCAT but accept people with a 3.2 and a 27.

Whatever they are looking for seems to work. From what I have heard from several docs at Memorial, the students from Mercer are very well prepared and bright. Board scores are good too.

PS. What shocks me is that we haven't heard of any mail received from MCG. Where are these letters?

I've spoken to MCG students who got their acceptance letters in mid-April, and that was before last year's flu pandemic. With the school going on spring break next week, it may be a long month ahead.

I called mercer today. Mary wasn't there, but the lady I spoke to said that everyone who's accepted getting a phone call is "not necessarily true". 😕
