Gamer DO's?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It will be worth it, man. Just think, after 3 months of studying you can get back into COD guild free and know you did well on the MCAT. If I could have changed anything about my MCAT prep it would have been to study more and SDN/Video game/girlfriend/etc. a lot less... It's all about sacrifice.

thanks, i really hope you are right. i've already decided this is the last time i'm taking it.

What up buddy? You still taking the mcat?

yep, things didn't go as well as i wanted last june so i decided to give it one more try. i've had two interviews (only applied to 5 schools) though with one hold and one waitlist, so things aren't over yet...i'm just studying again just in case i have to take it.

congrats on the KCUMB acceptance!

Ah cool, we had a chill group back then studying for the mcat together I remember. Best of luck with this next one I'm sure you'll rock it 👍

Spiral Knights is my current distraction of choice. However, it's in a "preview" stage (they refuse to use terms like "alpha" or "beta" testing), however if anyone wants in I've got a handful of invites collecting dust.

I play counter strike source and team fortress 2 mainly, as well as some other steam games after one of my exams to de-stress a little for a couple of hours 🙂. That, and pizza + beer = heaven every 2-3 weeks.

CS Source
Mass Effect 2
Left 4 Dead 2

On PC of course.

Best destressor after a big exam.
I do miss the LAN parties back in the day though. 👍

mass effect 2, cod black ops, and some reach on xbox. Of course starcraft 2 on the pc

Naw... best destressor after an exam is my 12 gauge and the local trap range. Guess where I'm going to be in 3-4 hours? Video games, however, are much cheaper.

Looked it up, looks like it could be fun! Mind sending an invite this way?

Ditto on the trap range as well.

Sent it to the hotmail account listed in your profile.

Shot a 21 and 22 today, great way to destress after a test about nasty bojingos and peepers.

Got it, thanks!

Does anyone out there still play D2 at all?

Sometimes I'll log on if I get the itch... :meanie:

I used to raid hardcore in FFXI, then moved to raiding hardcore in WoW, but quit for my grad program. Since then, I almost exclusively play League of Legends.

This is somewhat off-topic but I figured all you pc gamers would at least appreciate it. All of the parts for my new desktop finally arrived yesterday and I spent all night putting everything together, I just have to add software and overclock stuff now. Here are the specs;

Thats it! I'm really excited about the 2nd gen intel cores as the benchmarks I've seen are absolutely amazing since you can overclock to easily to 4.5-4.8gzh on an air cooling system. My old desktop was definitely beginning to get slow and could not run any new high end games on full settings anymore without terrible fps. I'm pretty sure this monster will eat any new game that come out in the next year or so without any problems!

So let me get this strait, u get a new awesome gaming computer all put together and the first thing you do is post on SDN.

Damn son. That PC is beast. You should be gaming not posting on SDN.

PCs probably won't need many upgrades since game developers have shifted the industry towards development of console games(old hardware compared to modern PC standards) instead of PC games. So we are stuck with games that utilize very little resources until the next generation of consoles come out.

Has anyone here played Trauma Center on the Wii? We need an SDN review of this game. 👍

It's pretty good, though it is hard not to rage when the stupid Wii controller doesn't respond correctly. I try to get games both my wife and I can play for the Wii, in the end this game gave my wife too much anxiety...oh well back to Raymond Raving Rabbids.

My jealousy gland is throbbing....

How much did all that cost you?

Nice build man! I've been hearing some great things about the new Sandy Bridge's. Probably about time to upgrade my first gen core.

What are you using to hold your 6 monitors in place? I'm assuming 3 on-top of 3?

haha this thread is still going wow. Shows how much of nerds many pre-meds/ med students are. Sadly I fall into this category as well since I am a die-hard COD player lol

well duh...

pc or console?

I've heard rumors of Modern Warefare 3 being released in November! A part of me hopes its true and a part of me hopes it never happens since the whole MEDSCHOOL thing will be happening at that time.

Doubt it....there's been virtually no hype, and black ops is still a relatively new release...

But Black ops isn't by infinitiward, which is the only reason why I would think they might release MW3 at the end of the year, but then again I'm not sure since half the main people working on the MW series quit.

I doubt they will have a new one in November as well. Before, when they were coming out once a year, they were split between Infinity Ward and Activision. So, Activision would release in 2007, Infinity Ward 2008, Activision 2009, and finally Infinity Ward in 2010. Now that Activision is essentially out of the picture, I'm not sure what's going to happen with the franchise.

I just discovered the Wager Matches on Black Ops. Pretty sweet. $$$$$

I got DC:universe online for the ps3 last week...I seriously haven't studied anything since

Black Ops, NFS Hot Pursuit, CoD 4, Guitar Hero, and NHL10 top my list.

Also, Infinity Ward is releasing MW3 this year. Activision isn't out of the picture, they are the publisher, not the developer.

Yeah, I'm having alot of fun with this. If you aren't playing on a PvP server you need to make a new guy on one. I started on a PvE server but it got dull around lvl 20, remade a guy on "No Man's Land" and haven't went back to my original character yet.

Yea, I play on The Killing Joke. You should make a Hero on The Killing Joke so I can kill you over and over and over again.

Got two alt heroes I play there, Mana Missle and Frankie...lemmie know if you see me so I can camp your mission area.

I also play normal games like WoW, Starcraft II, and COD.

But a majority of my gaming time is actually tabletop games like Magic: The Gathering and Dominion/Resident Evil.

I haven't seen anyone posting about tabletops...does anyone else play them or am I alone in a sea of pixel lovers

I can be fairly geeky, per my wife, but whenever my wife sees a group of ya'll at the mall she usually says "thank you for not being THAT geeky".

For some reason table top players remind me of LARPers. Don't know what a LARPer is? Neither did I until I saw a group of them at a public park (not the youtube video but I youtubed it once someone told me what it was)....LARPing taking being a geek to a whole new level:

Edit: Along these same lines, I don't think kids get beat up enough in high school anymore.

I used to play warhammer 40k back in the day.

converted to pixel-loving a longgg time ago though.

Yea, but a lot of the woman LARPers are cute though.

I'm curious, have any of you found that Starcraft II is not as demanding on your PC/laptop as SystemsRequirementsLab (SRL) says it is?

For example, SRL said that I couldn't run Dragon Age: Origins or Awakening on my laptop and I could run both of those games fine (with the occasional lag). It also says I can't run Starcraft II, but if there's a possibility that I can (similar to DA:O and DA:A), I want to get into it! I'm so jealous of the people enjoying SCII right now! 😳

Played all of the age of empires since I was 9..

I LOVED AoE! I was absolutely epic at AoEII. We used to play in my dorm some.

Elitist game here. I'm loling at the CoD and EA sports people calling themselves 'gamers'.

IMO, I don't consider any games that you can't kill 12 year olds on the internet enjoyable. Although, I admittedly loved Bioshock....

And Cod:BO gargles balls. It's only saving grace is zombies. MW2 is waaay better.

Did anyone ever play Ultima Online? I used to play on Atlantic and have yet to meet anyone else that played that game.

I'm a big gamer myself. PC gamer at heart, but I also have a PS3. Its great with its blu ray player and Netflix, but I don't play a lot of games on it.

Until I got Gran Turismo 5, 2 weeks ago. I love cars...

I love the Fallout series, old and new. And can't beat Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

You know, I hear everyone raving about dragon age, but never played it myself... worth a spin?

Also, anyone play runes of magic? That insufferable WoW clone?

I don't think Dragon Age is that good. The story or whatever is fine, but the combat system kind of sucks.

Depends which system you play it on. I heard it sucks on the consoles. I played it on the PC and it played like the old school Baldur's Gate games and World of Warcraft.

I enjoyed the hell out of it. Graphics are great if your PC can handle it. If you have plenty of free time, I say go for it. If not, probably shouldn't. Its a huge game. At least 40 hours without doing everything in the game.

Agreed. Absolutely loved DA:O and DA:A (to a lesser extent)! I think I spent more than 60 hrs on my first playthrough and I'm positive I didn't anywhere near completing everything in the game. Good story, loved the combat (played on PC), etc.

Can't wait for Dragon Age II to come out this March!
