Yikes...what an awful tragedy. Not a good representation of the specialty. Did the stress of the job drive him mad? Drug problems? Seems unlikely someone with that degree of instability could make it in anesthesia.

There are unstable psycopaths in all fields.

I, for one, am not falling out of my seat in shock.

Anytime a doctor, a judge, or a teacher does something like this, it salaciously grabs our attention.

Case in point: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime...o-death-in-apparent-murder-suicide/ar-BB8oC89

Why aren't we talking about that story here? Four people died.

People at all levels of society occasionally "snap" and do something like this. Apparently something happened on this guy's wedding day, of all things, that pushed him over the edge. We will probably never know. But unless it is some side-effect of our profession that could possibly effect any one of the other of us, does it really matter?

Sounds to me like they had a wedding day fight that got out of control. Which, in my mind, reaffirms that you should be very careful about who you marry. And that applies to everyone.

But the story is very interesting... I mean if someone is so mad at some one to the point of murdering them you would think they could have skipped the wedding part... unnecessary expenses and all

He was probably mad he couldn't get his security deposit back.

More details...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ife-MINUTES-guest-left-wedding-reception.html

An Indiana anesthesiologist shot dead his wife minutes after the last guest left their wedding party early on Sunday morning after an alleged alcohol fueled argument over a pre-nuptial agreement turned tragic.

Dr. George 'Scott' Samson, 54, is said to have told his new wife, Kelly Ecker, 50, that she would 'never get her hands on his money' during the wedding reception at the Ohio Building in Terre Haute on Saturday evening.

According to witnesses, the argument became increasingly bitter when the wedding after-party moved to Samson and Ecker's mansion, with guests deciding to leave at 1.17am on Sunday morning as the fighting escalated.

Thank you. Lot of gold diggers out there. Lot of dudes in denial. Some deadly denial, apparently.

P.S. That could've been me if I'd married the girl I was dating during residency. A frequent "joke" she used to make was asking me when she was going to be named as the benefactor on my life insurance policy.

(Edit to add: Not shooting her and then myself. haha No, I mean saying something like "you'll never get your hands on my money" at the wedding, if I had been stupid enough not to see through her and let it get that far.)

Apparently there was a rejected credit card and he couldn't pay for the reception. He left the reception without her. That's what triggered this.

Anyone want to speculate why the credit card was rejected?

Judging by this picture, I will speculate that he was marrying her for all the wrong reasons. He should've known exactly what he was getting himself into before he got into it. This is a terrible tragedy that should never have happened. This was clearly not a match made in heaven.

So there were other people (his parents and her kid) in the house asleep when he was beating the **** out of her right before killing her. Why did she not seek their (parents')help? I highly doubt he would have shot her in front of his own parents for fear of shooting them.

Or maybe I am wrong.

She was found shot to death in her 10-year-old son's room.

Listen, I'm not blaming the victim here. I'm blaming the pairing. This doc was clearly a severely disturbed individual. On one hand we have what was probably a wealthy anesthesiologist with clear mental, anger, money, and control issues. And, on the other hand, you have (what was likely) a middle-aged gold-digger who was willing to look past that in order to get the lifestyle she wanted.

Sounds like behind closed doors it was a toxic relationship that somehow made it all the way to the alter when, if even one of them had been a mature adult, should never have gotten that far.

Just speculation, of course.

Buzz, it was NOT HIS child. So maybe he didn't care for him.

Those were HIS parents. Different relationship.

But like I said, I could be wrong.

Yeah, I understood that. It was her kid from a previous relationship. Who knows if she ran into his room and he did the deed there. Either way, poor kid.

But, it does sound from the reports that the gunshots awakened his parents. And that he then re-loaded, walked past his father and into the basement, and then shot himself. Who knows? Maybe they were in a different part of the house asleep and didn't hear any of the argument until he started firing.

Just speculation... of course.

Yeah, pretty big house apparently. And the parents are old likely with hearing deficits.

And yeah, poor kid. Talk about PTSD and being screwed up for life!!!!

Look, there are plenty of examples out there of middle-aged women who made bad life choices earlier in their lives and are just trying to get their kid's college tuition paid. It's not about love, "soul mating", or anything else. It's about using their "assets" and survival. But, just don't get greedy. You piss the wrong guy off, and this is what happens. Tragically. Of course... I'm speculating.

Then again, a lot of other people make this exact same (or similar) situation work.

I think we can all agree that regardless of the circumstances, this was a very unfortunate and tragic turn of events that left 2 people dead. It's too bad more people don't seek help, mental illness is much more devastating than people realize.

Ouch! Assuming the CC was denied because of her excessive spending (why bicker over the prenup during the reception otherwise?), I would have filed for annulment the next morning.

I don't think this was mental illness, besides anger management issues. This was rage plus alcohol plus exhaustion. Plus a bad match, as Buzz said. He didn't know whom he was marrying. Stupid midlife crisis; he should have bought himself a car, not a trophy wife.

Older people should not marry people from a different socioeconomic layer without a prenup. At a mature age, there is very little selfless true love even between equals. Mix in money and it's a recipe for disaster. We've all seen it so many times.
