Any alternatives to gaswork
Started by lotsapain
Gaswork is good for just browsing Frankly I haven’t used gaswork to any full time or locums job since the first Obama administration. Are there any decent alternatives to Gaswork, the site has either repetitive postings, inactive ones or lacks some postings that
randomly pop up elsehwere.
THanks
The better jobs are when u network and people call u up. My last 3 w2 jobs. Just friends or friends of friends just called and asked if I was willing to come on board.
As for locums assignment. These days u get on some email or text list and they keep contacting you.
So what exactly are u looking for?
Network on here…. Sdn is a great resource. People don’t like to post jobs because they (in general) get ripped a new one… but lots of places are looking or know to hire a good fit in this market if they can.Are there any decent alternatives to Gaswork, the site has either repetitive postings, inactive ones or lacks some postings that

It’s hard to compete with the SDN standard of $850k and 28 weeks off.Network on here…. Sdn is a great resource. People don’t like to post jobs because they (in general) get ripped a new one… but lots of places are looking or know to hire a good fit in this market if they can.

Yeah you have to have an in, only the people with great jobs are offered other great jobs
There are no more Ins.... all the jobs pretty much suck in their own special way. They don't even pay well anymore. Im just glad I managed to finish paying my student loans (it took close to 20 years)and essentially debt free and solvent.Yeah you have to have an in, only the people with great jobs are offered other great jobs
correct. Jobs are fleeting. The schedule maybe good for 1-2 years and staffing changes and u gotta decide to move on or stay. There are no more Ins.... all the jobs pretty much suck in their own special way. So I encourage all those who aren’t happy with their current job. To walk if changes aren’t made. Give them 6 month to 12 months. Walking away maybe the best solution.
I also encourage people to never to do overtime at your own place unless u are getting a good deal working extra. Say work 2-3 hrs extra and paid the entire 8 hrs and first to go home. The worst thing I have seen is many south Florida docs rot in room solo post call for almost an entire 8 hr for $225-250/hr w2 taxed at 35-37% plus 0.9% Obamacare surtax. Just to cover for shortage of crnas who are chilling on south beach who decide not to work on a Friday. Don’t be that idiot.

Are you an early/mid 90s grad that got screwed by that market?
lol. A little bit of an exaggeration, my friend… everyone should know location, schedule, money…. Prioritize one and that will dictate the restIt’s hard to compete with the SDN standard of $850k and 28 weeks off.
Many people my era 2003-2007 had 2-3% student loan consolidated rates. So no real urgency to pay it pay it off earlyYou're an anesthesiologist and it took you 20 years to pay off your loans?

I was at 3.5-% but paid it off in 3 years in 2007.
Silly me being responsible and losing a bunch of money on housing as well.
So people like to leverage debt.
I still have 100k of student debt, locked at 2%, 15 years into practice. No reason to ever pay it off, as it is forgiven when I die. I would be losing money to pay it any faster than I absolutely have to. I even tried to talk them into letting me go negative amortization. No dice.
I have one student loan left at 1.75%. 218/month until 2042... so many other loans are getting paid off first. Many people my era 2003-2007 had 2-3% student loan consolidated rates. So no real urgency to pay it pay it off early

Debt free thanks to the good ole United States Navy. I agree it is very rare to find money/location/time off. We just filled our practice. 2 weeks on 2 weeks off desirable location and competitive compensation. I don’t know how long this will last I will stay with it until the wheels fall off. Our last position was filled word of mouth.
It really feels like the market is drying up. Even GasWork went from the usual 3–5 pages of repetitive listings per state down to barely two. Makes me wonder if there’s some kind of artificial reset happening — maybe even some quiet collusion between the bigger players. What’s your take on it? It’s strange how anesthesia demand dropped so fast in just the last 6–9 months. Maybe all that VC money that was being thrown around for unnecessary coverage just to “buy market share” finally dried up…

I suspect a lot of the slowing is due to the overall macroeconomic concerns and slow job market nationally (as is seen in many fields now). Hiring has slowed for everyone. Hospitals have some uncertainty around government reimbursement. Additionally, full time offers have improved so fewer people are jumping to locums.

Hit or miss depending on location.I suspect a lot of the slowing is due to the overall macroeconomic concerns and slow job market nationally (as is seen in many fields now). Winter season is like the housing season. Low volume shoppers for anesthesia locums. It dries up in Florida in winter time for locums. I still have 80k-90k of locums work staring at me for the month of December but nothing like 150k a month opened in the summer of 2025. I’m just not interested in working much in December. May work 2 weeks and that’s it.
So definitely tightened.
Don’t think it’s drying up… I think permanent job offers have gotten better and filled. We are filled and no one considers this a desirable location - we like it but not for everyone. There are a few jobs out there now with 700k offers that won’t kill you. Not in nyc or dallas but pick your priority. A few friends are prn in those locations and complain about the $ compared to mine…. Pick your priority.
I’m still bombarded with recruiters calls and texts. Their offers suck half the time…. The good jobs are full and timing has to be right to get in with retirements.

Yes NY/NJ Market has dried up even jobs no one wanted suddenly became very attractive once Napa exited NJ and salaries reached where they need to be. Not so much in midwest where people do not appreciate what they have.... and hardly work 40 hours a week... anyway we got wayyyy off topic here....It really feels like the market is drying up. You speak in opposites all the time..... if jobs got filled as you said how is it that market did not dry up? Of course it did in desirable locations ie NYC San Diego... its still ****ty in the middle of rural Illinois, etc.Don’t think it’s drying up… I think permanent job offers have gotten better and filled. Really? Find me a 700k job in Tristate area, low call and CRNAs I will take it...... yeah no one will give that up to anyone elseNetwork on here…. Sdn is a great resource. i would cold call hospitals in your desired area, lots are still looking, maybe not for locums but for regular docsAre there any decent alternatives to Gaswork, the site has either repetitive postings, inactive ones or lacks some postings that

you may have to go one some interviews that dont work out, but your not going to get a menu of options with salary and vacation time and you just choose where to go
There are lots of w2 jobs in the northeast that pay close to 700k w2. U need to put it in context u are taking 10 weeks off and average 40-45 hr a week inclusive of calls. Is that what you are really after?Really? Find me a 700k job in Tristate area, low call and CRNAs I will take it...... yeah no one will give that up to anyone else
But w2 base pay is around 550k plus overtime in my localities. Plus sign on bonus. Many w2 docs will average at least 100k extra in overtime and extra shift (picking up an extra weekend 12 hr is $3600 w2 or $7200 for 24 hr). It ads up quickly. But the extra work gets old quick.
Any idea about the SoCal locums market?i would cold call hospitals in your desired area, lots are still looking, maybe not for locums but for regular docs

What i find with w2 jobs is there is no incentive to say once ur 2-3 year sign on bonus expires or prorated. I joke about lebron James 1 plus 1 year contracts he signs. But he’s been doing this for the last 10 years with each w2 contract bigger and bigger due to the flexibility of the contracts.
20 years to pay off your loans? how much did you have??????There are no more Ins.... all the jobs pretty much suck in their own special way. They don't even pay well anymore. Im just glad I managed to finish paying my student loans (it took close to 20 years)and essentially debt free and solvent.
I took the slow route. then at the end I was essentially getting free money( in no interest or payment for 3 years) for 3 years with the pause. It would be idiotic for me to pay it off.20 years to pay off your loans? how much did you have??????

Well you probably got Biden-care once in a lifetime no payment no interest for 40 months during COVID.I took the slow route. then at the end I was essentially getting free money( in no interest or payment for 3 years) for 3 years with the pause. It would be idiotic for me to pay it off.
But eventually the loan has to be paid off (or u die)
If you have the resources to pay it off. Than do it.
But if you are stretching it along to conserve money. That’s fine also.
Debt is always a personal decision how to pay it off especially for physicians in higher paying specialties.
werent they still in the upper-mid pay during that time too? You're an anesthesiologist and it took you 20 years to pay off your loans?
Are you an early/mid 90s grad that got screwed by that market?
Has anyone used this "Saile" app that this NYC physician developed? From his postings on IG, doctors and medical professionals upload their CV and other medical certifications on this app and the candidate has direct access to facilities. So cutting out the useless middleman agencies and getting directly hired by facilities. That sounds like an awesome platform but I'm just weary of putting my CV on an app and have concerns about privacy. Though the advertisement for the app says they will not sell your information and it's private. Seeing if people have used Saile and if it's been successful for their supplemental income

What is the benefit for the facility hiring you off this app when they can use an agency that takes the liability. They aren't completely useless, they do provide SOme value. They vet you for the facility and they vet the facility for you.

My last two w2 jobs. The guys just call me up on a Friday night . Hey someone is leaving. Would you be interested. Told them I would think about it. I took it by Monday
I just left a job recently and asked my other friend to take over. So that job didn’t hit gaswork either.
Someone is always looking these days.
This is true in every profession. The really good jobs are very seldom advertised. Word of mouth & people who know people are how they get filled.Yup. There are lots of jobs that go unadvertised and not posted on gaswork.
