For rate law equations, the rate law cannot have a 1/2 or -1 order correct? I forgot my book at home ah!

so then if A had a rate order of 1/2 and B had a rate order of 1 then how would the two relate? This is a problem in Examcrackers and i'm kind of confused. Also, if you have A have a rate order of 2 and B have a rate order of 4, then how would they relate to each other? For instance, would 4 molecules of B react for every 2 molecules of A?
