I haven't really worked with a general dentist. I just pretty much go in my general dentist's place and I watch him do his thing. But, I have been an oral and maxillofacial surgery assistant since February. My letter of rec from a dentist is coming from my oral surgeon... this should be okay, right? I mean, why get a letter of rec from a general dentist if the oral surgeon knows me better.

I hope Tufts will accept my LOR... I don't know what I would do otherwise. :-(

why would they not? schools cant reject letters of recs from anyone, although they look down upon letters from people related to you. I got one lor from a doctor i shadowed..

Good thing I'm not related to my oral surgeon then... i'm more worried about some schools preferring a general dentist LOR over a specialist LOR if they require a dental LOR.

Schools, usually, say to get a letter from a dentist. Last time I checked oral surgeons were still dentists...so I think that means you are in the clear. Lots of people get specialists to write their LORs...doesn't make any difference at all.

tufts says "general dentist" lor... but i'm conveniently ignoring it and going by your reasoning.

I also got a dental specialist to write my LOR, although I shadowed a couple of general dentists. I just went with the person who I felt knew me the best.
