Hi, I have been reading these posts for a while and thought it was time to post.

Im trying to get a good read on what everyone thinks a solid acceptance would would need for an average school.

With normal/average EC's, shadowing, and the works.

GPA DAT (Sci, PAT, Math, Reading...) All individual if possible
4.0.............
3.9.............
3.8
3.7
3.6
3.5
3.4
3.3
3.2
3.1
3.0

umm..WHAT??

1) No school is an average school. Acceptance to any school is a great thing.
2) No stats guarantees you a solid acceptance.

I am not going to take in state preferences into account.

With a 3.0, I would say that scoring a 23 on DAT is enough.

With a 4.0, I would say that you still need a 17, 18 at least.

well, even if you had good number does not necessary means you will be a great dentist. you must have a well rounded profile to show that you are made for dentistry.

I disagree somewhat, if you had a 4.0 then why would you have anything less than 95 percentile? 😉
but like you said, a low gpa can be made up with a high DAT.
The other way around doesn't make much sense.

Some people just aren't good test takers...or maybe they're having an off day, ya know. 😉

Using Point Slope Form:

We can assume X is GPA and Y is DAT:

(3.0, 23)
(4.0, 17)

slope =m= [ 6/-1 ]= -6

Doing all subsequent math:

Formula where X=GPA and Y=DAT score:

y= -6 (x) + 41

The info on gpa and dat is already available for every school in the country. Try using the available resources first. In the end, what everyone thinks is of little significance, unless they also happen to be adcom members.
