Just curious if most students do a GPR? It would certainly not hurt your clinical skills but it required? Does is equate to being hired at more money? Just curious.

It isn't required (except to be licensed in New York if you haven't done a specialty program or an AEGD).

And it certainly can equate to being hired at a higher rate if your clinical speed has become quicker, which it probably will be.

but, would it help?
generally, the more u produce..the more u bring home.

so...
...if u can become more efficient via going the gpr route...go for it.

for me..
i went from being torn on whether to apply to OS...to being torn between a gpr vs no gpr.. ...to now where i am trying to decide if i really want to take this jump and buy-out a practice..

u just have to decide your goals...
..and figure out how you'll get there.
🙂

if you don't know what you want to do then do a gpr/aegd. It certainly won't hurt you and you can explore OS to see if you want to pursue it or explore buying a practice with the attendings - they will offer good insight

Does a GPR pay you much? How much should one expect to receive during this extra year of residency? Or, does one have to look elsewhere for finacial resources?

You are usually paid as a GPR resident. And usually, you are paid pretty well for a resident, so people don't normally take out more loans to attend a GPR.
