If someone did not land an OMFS spot upon completion of dental school, what are their options beyond PP. Would they have to wait a year? Are these other options even more competitive? This isn't for me, but for someone else. Thanks!

They could spend a year as an oral surgery intern and reapply. They could also do a GPR or AEGD and reapply. Could even complete a dental anesthesia residency and reapply. The other options are not more competitive than getting in, in the first place.

Whether or not this would make the applicant more competitive is program dependent. Some programs like to take residents with post-grad experience while some don't.

+1👍

I know IU's OMFS program has a habit of accepting their intern as a first year resident the subsequent year
