Hi, just wondering about how much genetics (specifically, replication/transcription/translation) are as a % of the biology (yet non Orgo part) of the bio subsection? Or is it very different from test date to test date?

Reason I ask is i've had cell bio (at UIUC, pretty intense) but we also have a molecular genetics course that is rumored to be the toughest class on campus (right along with orgo's) for pre-meds. If i would strongly benefit from taking it, I will...but dont want to kill my GPA when I can focus on other things but if it will be worthwhile...well you get the idea.

Thanks in advance!

Take class to improve GPA. You will need to study separately for MCAT anyway, and while molecular genetics may help, the class will go on much more details than you will need.

If you can handle it though, it wouldn't obviously hurt. From your post, it sounds like you won't get a high grade if you were to take that class.

MCB150 covers just about all the cell processes and structure basics you need to know for the mcat. Any other high level mcb course is just icing on the cake to give you more depth and practice with the major concepts and confidence in the topics. However it is entirely possible to not take any course at all and study genetics through a prep book.
