Apparently its on protected federal land so its an international school located on US soil and Southern California to be exact. Oxnard CA...nice place too.

wow...thoughts? concerns?

Finish Med. school in 2 years and 10 months? ........O.K. Very nice in theory, but you would have to be one dedicated mofo.( one could argue superhuman even) in order to finish all basic science, 3rd and 4th year rotations, as well as pertinent licensing exams in that time.

As for the school itself? Who knows? I wish the first set of guinea pigs...err..students...good luck.

it sounds like someone had a lot of free time on their hand so they just made up a website for a fake medical school. there are a lot of things that are questionable...such as the 2 year and 10 month program, the cost is $7500 per semester, # 1 medical school.....

There is someone out there faking their MD and using this web site as proof of the school's existence.

I'm not so sure its fake. It looks like they're shaving off the entire 4th year of medical school which isn't necessarily required to get licensed anyways.

My personal thoughts: If this school actually get WHO approved and its students are able to sit for the steps, I don't think that the medical board of California (my home state, not where I went to medical school) will approve its education.

However, if they do get the approval....wow, you have an foreign school in California. Sure you would get IMG biases when applying for residency like any other IMG, but you wouldn't have to go off shore for your education.

And the stigma in terms of lay people, family members, and patients, you could always tell them the truth that you went to a new medical school in California. A huge plus for those that care about the stigma. We all know basic science education is basically the same at the caribbean and on the mainland, it all depends on how hard you work at it.

IF they get approval and even more so California approval, Over the years this school would def. rival any caribbean medical school.

Sounds about right to me.

Tell everyone what: I'm opening up a new medical school called the University of Corescant. We graduate MDs in a little as two weeks and the entire cost of the program is $500.

Please visit my website at http://www.haha-I-got-your-money.edu for more details. MC, VISA, and Discover accepted.

Here are the schools projected stats:

Avg Overall GPA: 1.7
Science GPA: 1.2
MCAT: 8 (not in a section - this is total)

I'll gladly look at your application and tell you if you're competitive for my program for a nominal fee.

You know, the coat of arms on the school's website looks remarkably similar to that of Hogwarts. Perhaps the two schools have the same founder?

Under the faculty webpage...

second year faculty positions: all pending

that webpage is such a scam!!!

look at their FAQ:

Q: Where are the clinical rotations being done?
A: Clinical rotations are the least concern of a new applicant to medical school. A new medical student, just beginning their medical school basic science instruction, has 16 months in the accelerated Stewart University M.D. program, before they even take the USMLE step 1 exam, which they need to pass prior to taking any clinical rotations in the U.S.. The clinical rotations can take place in a variety of locations throughout the United States or elsewhere in the world - where the medical student desires.

They dont even want to answer their own questions!! LOL.

Q: Why isn't Stewart University School of Medicine accredited in the state of California?
A: We neither seek nor desire accreditation from the State of California, as we are an International school, operating on federal land, and do not need accreditation from the State of California in order to operate. Because we are an International school that is operating on federal land, we operate outside the jurisdiction of the State of California, and they have no authority over Stewart University despite their desire to control all medical training in the State of California. If you call the State of California, they will not say that they recognize Stewart University because Stewart University is above the standard of the state as an International medical school that operates on federal land outside the state's jurisdiction. We are operating completely legally and within federal government boundaries and protections, and for this reason the state of California cannot and does not have the authority to recognize our stature.

So has anyone actually paid them tuition? I sure hope not.

I can't believe anyone would be willing fork up $7500 and not know if the school is accredited or if they could sit for the USMLE.

this is really really sad.

Hey McGill, who's faking their MD using Stewart University?

I was just being facetious. In my mind, I was just imagining some poor guy creating a full website to impress someone. It was just tongue-in-cheek.

Hopefully its as simple as that. I sure hope the proper authorities have been notified about this scam and that no one was foolish enough to actually pay this guy any money.

After reading ekimsurfer's link to value md exposing this fraud (thanks for link by the way), I still can't believe the Stewart University Website is up and running.

And what's up with the whole Scottish theme? To the best of my knowledge, no real med school even needs a theme.

The scary thing is that this kind of junk show is going to prompt more states to follow suit with California and demand their own individual accreditation processes. That would likely be just another pain in the ass for graduates of a legitimate offshore school like SGU. Lame 🙁

Come to think of it, I think Ross tried to set up an international school in some random state a few years back and was shot down by the AMA.

Anybody have the info. on this?

Just curious

Thanks in advance.

Ross did try to set up a program in Wyoming on a Reservation. The AMA can't shoot down any business. They only loby and they don't have any legislative power.

I believe the local chapter and the local doctors worked very hard to keep this from taking place. I think some threatened that they would not give Ross graduates a residency slot. In the end Ross scrapped his plans.

My bet is that this new school is for real. How well they do is another story.

Thanks for the post ajce9, I appreciate it.

Looking at this Stewart Univ. website a little closer, the entire thing screams scam. They want you to pay 75 dollars via paypal online before they give you access to the application.

And get this, admission doesn't require mcat nor letters of recommendation (which the reason they give is that they are useless to predict success in medical school), and here's the kicker....UNofficial transcripts are acceptable for acceptance.

After receiving your application, a phone interview is conducted (and they say that if offered in interview, it means the university is extremely interested in you), and when accepted you have to reserve your seat by paying another non-refundable 750$ thru paypal within 48 hours or your seat in the class and application is revoked.....

you can find all this information in the Stewart University Catalog.

I can't believe someone actually put in all this work. This is nuts...and just so so sad.

I was bored and under my search of fake MDs I found these articles which were pretty interesting: The articles are based on diploma mills which render fake diplomas of all types and people who are practicing medicine without having ever gone to medical school. Apparently this fake diploma thing is a multi-million dollar industry. Its a long, but interesting read in my eyes.

Glad you like it! That creature cracks me up too but I have no freaking clue what that thing is.

How did you like SGU by the way? I'm heading there in August for Vet Med

SGU was great! Living on an island is just awesome and you guys in vet are very close group. Nothing rivals the beauty and tranquility when living in Grenada. AMSA and the other big parties are lots of fun (of course when exams are over), and 2 years is a great chunk of time (I think you guys are there for longer) where you can study hard, do well, but have time to party and explore the different islands....I would try to make the most of your experience there by traveling to the Grenadine islands (snorkeling at the tobago cays are awesome!), and going to isla de la margarita, well words can't describe the fun you'll have there. Trinidad and Tobago are close by (carnival time is off the hook), Barbados and st lucia are more chill places that are still only a 45 min. plane ride away.

Beach, beach, and more beach, lots of new friends, and overall a great experience both academic wise and socially.

I don't know about everyone else but I always thought the vet school girls were much cuter than the med students. So if ur a guy than you're in luck....and well if ur a girl you'll have the full attention of the male medical student body.

Good luck to you and Congratulations!👍

haha don't let the name fool you...just a female Simpsons freak
