I'm sitting on 3 wait lists right now, and am starting to think about if I don't get in what I will do for next year. How am I supposed to even look for another job when I might have to turn it down if I get in? What person would even hire me in that case?

Any type of job in a grocery store can be short term. The working staff fluctuate depending on school year/vacation time. People come and go monthly

Any type of job in a hospital can be as needed or part-time/short term. If you are a CNA or can work in records or as a transporter, orderly. Those types of employees come and go too.

Any fast food/pizza/wal-mart are always looking for part time help since it fills the gaps and they don't have to pay you benefits either.

There is plenty of part time stuff out there, you just have to want to look for it and do it for money, not for the long term.

look for a job, not a career. you don't HAVE to mention that you are on 3 wait list for medical school. Most places will say you are "eligible for rehire" if you give a 2 weeks notice, but if you get a call from a medical school two days before class starts, I'll doubt you will need the reference from said job.

I agree with the above post. You don't HAVE to tell potential employers that you may leave within few months. I used to tell employers that I was applying to school when I was first looking for a job and that did not work out too well.

You may feel guilty for not telling them but entry level positions tend to have high turnover rate anyway! 😀 Getting a job through a temp agency might also be a good idea in your case. Lot of those jobs are temp-to-hire in case you don't get in this year. Good luck!

also golf course jobs are usually seasonal so if you get off the waitlist..well you're free and clear anyways...

Getting into med school isn't certain until you have that acceptance in hand so I'd plan for the worst (get a job), and hope for the best. I was in a similar position last year. I had a full-time job (I'm a non-trad), but I told my boss I was applying to med school. I was waitlisted in the bottom third at one school, but my boss convinced himself that I would get in so he went ahead and hired someone to replace me. I got nervous so I started looking around for another job, found one at a pharmaceutical company, and started in the middle of June. I never told them I was waitlisted and I was never pulled off the waitlist either. I felt bad at the beginning, but honestly I think you have to be a little selfish when it comes to getting a job. People come and go all the time even if it's a full-time job at a pharmaceutical company. I've found if you're completely honest about your career goals you tend to be passed over or end up being screwed. My current employer doesn't know I applied again this year and was actually accepted. I'm giving a two weeks notice right before school starts and leaving it at that. Good Luck!

Agreed....I told the job I am currently at that med school was in my plans but did not give them any further information (was an ED tech and switched to cardio tech). This was right before I was offered interviews so I did not feel horrible but still a little deceitful. Anyway, I am on 2 waitlists and when I told them they were super excited for me...apply broadly to jobs, don't mention what you don't have to and remember..if you have to leave a job to go to med school...well, you are leaving a job to go to MEDICAL SCHOOL..people are gonna be excited for you and you should be too!! And just a little side advice..I would do something besides healthcare, probably because I have tons of clinical experience and I am a little burnt out on these entry level jobs but I think it would be good to just work a different job for awhile and take a break before you hit it hard in healthcare...
