How bad does it look, for example in like a science class like gen chem

If you have one or two Ws, that's ok.. If you have 7-8 like mine, then you might be asked about it during the interview like in my case... I regretted from unnecessarily withdrawing for some non-major courses.

RNtoPHARMD is right. 1-2 W's won't kill you. No one is perfect and if you do have Ws I guess you have a very good reason for it. Everyone does 🙂. I have 2 and I still got intreviews and acceptances. So be happy 😛

even if it's in gen chem?

I have Ws from Org II and Cal II without even go to class... I still managed to get in some schools.. at least an interview.. If they asked, you can explain in an interview... I retook them and got A.

However, I wouldn't be worried about it at all..
Ws don't not count against you if you just have just a few..

1-2 Ws is nothing, the ADCOM likely will look over them and won't ask you about them. I had 1 W in orgo II because we had a nightmare professor change after the first exam and I couldn't stand it. I took it the next summer and got an A.

W stands for "weaksauce". You don't want the ADCOMs thinking that you're weaksauce.

what if that W will drop you to part time? How badly will it effect you? I have 14 units right now but if I drop I will be down to nine units🙁

Haha, don't freak out. I had that type of thing happening to me. I was never asked about it because I explained my situation during the application process for some schools and other schools just didn't bother to ask about it. You know, not many people can be perfect and sail smooth in school. People have to work for money and deal with a whole lot of other issues that will affect how one is doing in thier course. Its just life and it seems very normal to me to have a few blemishes here and there. :luck:

Like everyone else has said, a few Ws won't hurt you, no matter what they are in. When you have a lot, that is a different story.

I have a W in gen chem 2 lab. I've been invited for interviews at all 4 of my schools, and I've been accepted to 2. The two schools I have already interviewed with did blind interviews (they don't see your application beforehand, it is supposed to make it unbiased). They first one I didn't mention it, simply because I didn't think about it. The second I did.

I told them there was a W on my transcript for gen chem 2 lab. He kind of laughed and waved it off. I continued with why it was there. I got in, so I don't think it was a problem at all.

I'll probably only mention it at my other 2 interviews if they bring up something about it.

They understand that things happen and classes get dropped. I wouldn't worry about it at all unless there was a trend...

I have 2 W's (one in Calculus, the other was due to a weird administrative sort of thing but I still had to report it on PharmCAS as a W) and have been accepted to my top 3 schools (all top 10 ranked) and have received several more interview invitations on top of the 3. I applied to soooo many schools because I wasn't sure about my chances. Looking back, I shouldn't have worried so much. I highly doubt my interviewers even knew about the W's and I didn't even explain why I got the W's for most of the schools I applied to and it didn't make a lick of difference. Actually now that I think of it, the schools that I did explain the W's for, I still haven't heard back from but I doubt that means anything. Key thing here: Just re-take the class and try to make sure that W will be your last one. 👍
