if you were to be accepted to a school, how long do schools give you to place your deposit and accept your seat?

perhaps there are others in the same boat as me... i'm going to be applying to ucb, HOWEVER, admissions decisions won't be made until the early spring, i believe. by that point, i should have heard back from other schools (with which i have interviews coming up in the next few weeks). i guess i'm worried that i'll miss an acceptance deadline while i'm waiting to hear from ucb, and if i get denied from ucb, then i'll be darn out of luck!

anyone else have/had this dilemma?

scco gives u 2 weeks, suny gives u about a month...yes many ppl have/had this dilemma im sure. if ur really nervous, fork over the deposit. its been done quite a bit

UAB only gave me two weeks, SCO isn't until Jan. I think. So I just went ahead and paid UAB's deposit.

Anyone know how much is the deposit for SUNY?

Yes i am in the same boat as you!! I will definitely be sending in a deposit to the first school I get accepted to (I am only applying to 1 school with rolling admissions, the other two give acceptances in spring - UCB being one of them). I need to know there is a spot for me in a school next year, and the deposit is probably relatively small (but I'm not sure?) compared to the debt I plan to have after 4 years so I think its worth it!

Some (if not all) of the schools also have policies as to how the deposits work. They understand that they may not be the first choice and that you may even be waiting to hear from other schools before deciding where you'd like to go. So they may refund your deposit (in full or only a portion) should you withdraw. Check with whatever school you'll be putting a deposit down on for the policy regarding this. But yes, it is a small amount compared to what you'll be in debt for, but that's not a good way to go about thinking of your finances haha. It kinda gets some people in trouble and puts them in a much much bigger financial hole as they carry this mentality a little too far.

how long does ICO give you until you make your decision to pay for your seat????

suny is $500. they're great cause your deposit is refundable up until april so you can change your mind.

Does anybody know about the deposit for PCO and NECO? Like if you get accepted do you have a certain number of weeks to respond, and do you ever get your money back??

Thanks in advance!

For PCO, from their site it says:
An applicant may be notified of his or her acceptance as early as October. Upon receipt of acceptance, an applicant is required to pay $1,000 matriculation fee to the College prior to the start of classes, payable as follows:

* Return the matriculation form within 14 days of the date of the acceptance letter. A $500 deposit is due January 15; if accepted after January 15, the $500 deposit must accompany the matriculation form.
* Due June 1--the balance of $500 of the matriculation fee.
* All monies received above will be applied toward first term fees.

It also says on another page of their site that if you withdraw you get back all but $100 of what you gave.
