hello all,
I'm a 4th year starting the application process, was concerned by an email I got from Medical College of Georgia. It stated that a requirement of the program was that you have either an A or B in both Surgery and Internal medicine rotations, and that you must have an A in one of these. The minimum USMLE score was 200....seems a bit odd. So I'm curious, do you most programs have requirements such as this? I figured USMLE scores would play a role, but requiring certain grades in specific rotations?

I happen to have only gotten a pass in both medicine and surgery, then high pass or honors in everything else except ob/gyn. My boards are upper 240s and I've done a good bit of research. Should I be worried about my low grades on medicine and surgery?

"Sometimes in confusion
I felt so lost and disillusioned
Innocence gave me confidence
To go up against reality

All the same we take our chances
Laughed at by time
Tricked by circumstances
Plus ca change
Plus c'est la meme chose
The more that things change
The more they stay the same

Now I've gained some understanding
Of the only world that we see
Things that I once dreamed of
Have become reality
These walls that still surround me
Still contain the same old me
Just one more who's searching for
A world that ought to be"

smiegel,
thanks for the wise words of mr. Peart

Don't worry. Programs vary in their requirements. You'll do fine. Apply to a good number of programs. Some won't like you, and some will. If you shoot for 7 interviews, then you're in good shape.

If a program won't take you for some stupid petty reason, it's not a program you would want to be at, anyway.

Just my 2 cents.

Life is too short to fret about small things. You sound like you have pretty solid credentials; I wouldn't worry too much...
