So, as a prior service (enlisted with 7) I know that when I go back on active duty around June I should be 0-3E >6. Enlisted time counts for pay, but not promotions. This amounts to 1,310.00$ more per month than a "plain old" 0-3 with 0.

I also know that it probably will not happen for the first 3 months because some private in Indianapolis will screw it up, and I will get 0-3 (no "E") with 0 years service.

My question is--knowing this is probably going to happen--does anyone have any suggestions about who to call/talk to/yell at to make sure that my very first paycheck back on active duty reflects the proper grade and years of service?

Edit-right now, my HPSP stipend LES reads 0-1 with >6, which is good news. But it does not have the "E" designator on it. I also think since HPSP is technically the reserves, I should not count on it to be right just because it is "almost" right on my HPSP Stipend.

Get a statement of service

That is troubling. I will contact tham right away. Also, what is a statement of service?

The LES statement is not a crisis yet. There is no difference of stipend pay, but is for ADT. You have time to fix it as an M1. If you are not getting response from OTSG, directly contact LTC Bruising on email. When you access AD, that is when you can make sure they fix it and LTC Bruising's office has usually been accurate.

This paperwork is done in the last term of your fourth year. If you have a masters degree you can also apply for advanced DOR credit.

Not sure that it really matters because you want to get the paperwork right, but with 7 years prior service, the E designator doesn't make any difference. An O-1 (or an O-3) with 7 years makes the same whether they have enlisted time or not. So your pay will be the same and should be correct whether they make the "E" adjustment or not as long as they have your years of service right.

Once you get over 4 years of prior service, the "E" loses significance.

I was looking at that and noticed it as well. 0-3 >6 is 4602. So is 0-3E >6 so it doesn't really matter.

Can you talk more about the master's degree for credit deal? I have an MS and I've heard that I'll get two years knocked off promotion as a result. Which office (in the Air Force) would I have to contact?

I'm an old ground pounding bullet catcher, so I don't know in the USAF. But the DoD regulation is DoD Instruction 6000.13 paragraph 6.1.222. Each service has its own regulations for implementation, but they are all basically the same. The office that accesses you to AD when you graduate will be th eone to do that. THe Army has a form to fill out for prior service and academic credit. Ask the USAF what the procedure is. If they won't do it, call your congressional office for help. It could advance you to Maj two years earlier which is $1K/month.
