Back in December, I shadowed a MD for about a week at a free clinic in Chicago. I've also been looking to shadow a DO, and one is available to shadow at the same clinic, and I'll shadow her for a couple days next week. Now, I'm also going to start volunteering at this clinic next month for about 4-6 hours a week for the next 2 years (hopefully). I've grown to really like the clinic and the people there, who have all been very kind. Would it be a problem, though, on my application to have all this experience from one clinic? I would find another DO to shadow, but I've tried, and it's been hard finding one that would let me for a couple of days. What do you guys think?

I think it's always good to get a little experience with different specialties and different settings if at all possible.

I'd say to volunteer with them them if that's what you're interested in, but also try to find a different setting to do a little bit of shadowing.

Thanks for the help. Anyone else?

don't see a problem with that. If you really like the people at the clinic, the more likely that you will have a long-term commitment which will shows on your apps. personally, it was easier to write an essay about something i've done for a long time and really like rather than a little experience here and there (this applies to strong letter of rec too). also, if you work there for a long time, you may even get connections from the staff to go shadow other doctors

that's my opinion, but let's hear what the others have to say too 😛
