I graduated in 2007 with udergrad gpa 2.5. I know that is very low. I have already taken all my pre-med science courses.

I am interested in applying to a SMP..........I am currently working at a top medical school in research. I will be published on a few papers by the time I leave here. I also am taking upper level science courses to show i can handle the graduate work. I also am volunteering with a doctor.

What are my chances of getting into a good SMP program ...georgetown

do you have any advice for me if I should re-take all my pre-med courses?

Do you have an MCAT score? A decent one might get you into an SMP...

How much higher would your GPA be if you repeated your science courses? Those are really the courses you need to do the best in. If re-taking them will put you into the 3.2 range, then I'd say you would have a shot at some osteopathic schools. I think your only chance to get into a US allopathic school with a 2.5 is an SMP. Remember that the allopathic schools will average your new grade with your old one. So even if you repeated a few semesters you would not be much further ahead.

With a 2.5 you have no chance of admission to any US medical school or any respectable SMP program. You will need to take more undergraduate courses to get your GPA to at least a 2.8 if you want to get in to any SMP program. If you want to get in to an SMP without a truely stellar MCAT you will need to take more undergradate classes until your GPA hits 3.0. Graduate level classes will not help, these must be undergraduate classes. Once you hit 3.0 and get a good (30 or above) MCAT score you can apply to the SMP, which will then get you into medical school. You have a shot at the SMP with a 2.8 if your MCAT score is at least a 33 (probably higher)

Retaking classes to improve you application for osteopathic schools is also an option.

You can do this, many have before, but it's a long road.

I would apply WIDELY to SMPs and at the same time make plans to improve your stats if you don't get in anywhere. My experience has been that like many aspects of getting into medical school, there is always a bit of randomness involved (and unlike applying to medical school you won't have lost thousands of dollars if you don't get in anywhere). You might as well try and then if you get rejected ask SPECIFICALLY what they are looking for because you can get all the advice in the world here but nobody here is on an admissions committee.

Thanks for all the advice.

I should have probably told you that I already graduated college in may 2007. That is why I was looking into graduate level courses. A lot of the information I have read told me no to re-take undergrad science courses and try upper level science courses instead.

Do you think I should continue on this path of grad level or go to a college near by and re-take my undergrad science courses.
