Hi, I know you have to take Steps 1, 2 & 3 in order to get licensed. However, how do you get licensed in a specific state? Does it depend on where you write Step 3? I'm very confused 🙁

Thanks in advance for your help!

You can be licensed in any state you want; you just have to complete the application process, which can be more or less painful and expensive depending on the state.

See http://www.fsmb.org for specific state details.

And you can register for Step 3 from any state that you want. You don't have to have any affiliation whatsoever with that state, and don't have to physically take the exam there. Just pick a state that has easy requirements (like not having to apply for a license at the same time).

And yes, you do have to get a license in the state(s) you will practice in. They all require passing all 3 steps. Check the website that Dr. Cox provided for details.
