Addiction: the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming.

Anybody here have a certain addiction or bad habit that they want to get rid of prior to Pharmacy school?

For me...I really really really need to stop playing video games. 🙁 For those who don't play video games....won't understand the difficulty of giving it up. I even notice withdrawal symptoms such as depression and the inability to concentrate. I am fine now...but I remember the week I forced myself not go near the games. I was always sleeping or eating.

Sooo while I don't expect anybody to understand....what other addictions do you guys have?

I have that same addiction of playing video games, when I start a game that I really want to finish. But after I finish, I just stop buying games because I know that once I start, I will be addicted again. The last game I was hooked on was Assassin's Creed II, but I haven't touched a game since then. 😀

I also can't stop watching TV. I watch tv and do my homework, it takes twice the time but I just can't seem to turn it off.

I use to be addicted to Modern Warfare 2. From the moment I would wake up I would just think about trying out different classes and how to improve my k/d. I guess after a while it just started getting old. I still play but usually only a couple hours a week.

the best way is to play untill you don't want to play anymore.

trust me. it worked when I transitioned HS to uni. never played another video game since.

I'd stick with the video games. If you give up one thing, another thing needs to take its void.

Next thing you know...two years later, you are a crackhead living in an old abandoned warehouse trying to steal old copper piping out of houses for money.

A least with video games, Xbox Live is a flat annual fee and you can consume as much of it as you want.

Oh, and Battlefield 2 is way better than Modern Warfare 2.

I'm wanting to stop eating SO much fast food, so I don't die right after I graduate

I need to get FaceBook out of my system before I start USN. 😳

yeah i can vouch for this method, i played so many video games in college i can't stand to play them for long periods of time anymore.

Why would nobody understand your addiction to video games? You're only one of millions in America that play regularly.

I'm addicted to pickles. And novels. I'm not giving up either when school starts.

A bunch of my classmates are on FaceBook during class. It is not a good environment to give up that kind of addiction. I just leave my lapbook at home because when I have it out during class, I don't listen to a thing.

Haha this one guy that sits infront of me in economics class plays this game where a truck or a tank goes over hills and climbs rocks and stuff. And he played it every single class, which is remarkable because he hasn't missed one. And yet, he sucks. After all these invested hours he miserably fails every time. I imagine he'll be retaking the course, too.

I was a hardcore addict of WoW. Thankfully, I was able to give it up. Games aren't bad as long as they are played in moderation. I vouch to never get back into MMORPGs though. In addition to that, I want to cut back on sleeping in and tv :scared:

Haha, I direct this comment to some ladies on here that might just say.....just QUIT games and don't turn it on by thinking about the consequences.

It's a lot harder than that! Like many of you said, I can get bored of any game after a long time such as modern warfare, etc. But if any of you know DOTA...you know that there are almost infinite variables of how things can turn out, which make that DAMNED game so addicting.

2 teams of 5 players choosing out of 70 heroes. Then there are hundreds of items that can manipulate the outcome. Sometimes....you would think how to act/counteract while you're studying or even reading a book. It's so bad!

In any case, I feel a LOT better now that I have opened up to you guys. I haven't touched the game for a week (I've been playing for years) and I'm gonna try to never touch it again. 🙄

P.S. I do seem to notice that Blizzard is usually behind the most addicting games....UGH lol!

The only way I broke my WoW addiction was running out of money for the monthly payments. I haven't playing in about 2 weeks now, and don't want to go back. I'm go glad it was in time for finals too! no more random dungeons at 2am!

I was an addict of a different MMORPG that I'd rather not mention atm. I started in 2002 and didn't quit until the summer of 2007 right before I started college. At my worst, I was playing for 20+ hours a day so I could level up before a certain time period. :scared: But at least I indirectly gained technical computer skills from all that time in front of a screen. 😉

you need to substitute a healthier addiction for the more harmful one, i.e. methadone for heroin, masturbation for video games, etc...

World of Warcraft wasn't around in 2002 mate.

I started playing about a week after launch in December 2004.

I don't agree with Dub-V too much but in this case he's right.

Instead of totally giving up the video games what you have to do is practice self-control and play them in moderation.

I'm on a top 10 PvP team for WoW and right now playing on the Arena Tourney realm competing for a slot at the San Diego Regionals (Prize money, wooo) but yet, I still manage not to play too much. It can be done...

That's impressive. I wasn't into PvP. I was a raider. One of the best raiding guilds on our server even. Not to mention, I was the class leader. So I sacrificed my personal life and sleep so I could attend all the raids and coordinate my class. Wow.... typing that all out just made me realize how sad that really is lol. But it was so fun... and I miss it a lot. But I just can't handle the type of game that will progress when I'm not able to play. I stick to games that I can save and turn off now.

I love procrastination. I spent this entire semester waiting to do things at the very last moment, sometimes the hour before the assignment is due.

I seriously hope I can get rid of it by the time I start pharmacy school. I hope it's part of my senioritis and not something bigger... 😛

I'm already addicted to the world cup fifa game, it's going to be hard getting off of it. 🙂

This is the funniest thread I've ever read so far ..LOL

My addiction is SDN 😀

I used to raid as well, back in Vanilla and a BIT into BC, but with Arena, I could satisfy my competitive edge, be the best of the best, and play 3/4 less time.

Raiding is less of a time sink now but still, to clear all the hard mode content takes an incredible time investment compared to Arena. I play on 2 3v3 teams both at the top of the bracket and of course, the Tourney that just started, and my play time barely tops 4 to 6 hours a week. It took a long time to find similarly-minded teammates naturally, which is actually one nice thing about arena... instead of dealing with 9 or 24 other people who may or may not have a life or understand you having one, it's easy to find 2 others to be competitive with.

LOL... I used to procrastinate especially when doing homework for some of my classes that were boooooooooring!! 😴 Thank God I finally got rid of it ... *phew*

Getting rid of playing video game is a very very terrible idea. Video game is healthy for your brain. Believe me, if you play video game properly, you'll pass all your exams (of course u have to study) while people who don't play video games will fail here and there...

Is it bad I don't know what World of Warcraft is? lol

I just asked my boyfriend what it was and like 5 min later I hear "I'm gunna be playing this like crack" so I look up and he's signing up like "Oh yeah I forgot about this game".

I'm addicted to SDN.

I guess it's because I can somehow justify it in my head that it's productive because it has to do with school in a way.

I'm not really addicted to much else except caffeine, but I am NOT giving that up for pharmacy school. lol

Facebook and reality TV. I will not be getting cable at my place in Nevada so the TV won't be that big of a distraction, but my shows will be waiting for me on my DVR when I go home on the weekends. Now how will I fit in church, husband, kid, friends and TV?

I was so addicted to games in High School, that I dropped my love of science and got a BS in Computer Animation! It's not really working out for me....

..So here I am! Going back for Pharmacy 😀

You can look at my work HERE if your curious though...

Videogames for me (latest victim is inFamous for PS3 😛). Also, sleeping in late!

What realm are you on? I wasn't on a pvp server or anything, but I've always wondered how it was...

Pshh that's silly. All work and no play man! You know how it goes.

I'll never give up my video games.

If it was possible for me to be raiding on WOW while in pharmacy school I would! It's just too much time and I'm never free for raids so I had to give it up 🙁
But now I have starcraft 2 !!!111one!

that is obviously WoW...lol

PCPRODUCT was probably addicted to Everquest.

LOL, so most of you seem addicted to games too. See...it's hard to think critically during your studies when you're just trying to finish up half-ass work so you could go Level up some more.

Or Runescape...

I don't know, it's like anything else... all you need to do is have some will power.

Unless you've got the DRD-2A1 allele deficiency. Then I don't know what to tell ya. Get an IV drip of DOPAmine.

Why do you play video games? The reason I play is to have fun with friends. But when we all turned 21 and my parents didn't care if I go out late, one or two nights of a lot of real life social fun is enough to satisfy me for the week. When you find something to do in real life, and you feel like you're always working towards a goal, then it's easy to give up video games...or at least it is for me. I dropped WoW and took up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I'm going to take Muay Thai, too. Maybe fight in some amateur MMA tournaments.

And I'm in the best guild in my server, half of which is occupied by rl friends who go to my university, graduated from it, or we know from high school :[. It's sad because we just killed 25 man lich king 2 weeks ago and no one else is able to on the server. Okay, I guess being on a crap ass server also helps me quit.

I concur, though my guild raids two 4 hour nights a week.
