Does anyone have any suggestions about the best way to go with getting all of our vacinations. I don't really know if I can find my history of my shots. It is just best to go to to your doc or to the community health center. I have heard that that way may be cheaper, especially if I have to start all over agian. Just looking for suggestions. I really need to get started and I was hoping for any good hints you all might have.
Thanks.

Try getting a copy of your immunization record from your undergrad health service. This will at least have some of the basics.

Hey Hawk,

You're coming to AZCOM right? Cause when I started (Fall 2000) they required titers on everything...(I'll never forget the look on my FP's face when I went in his office and told him I needed those)...

Basically, shot records don't mean squat here. Good luck, titers can be expensive (and most insurance plans don't pay for them, even though I got lucky and mine did).

Yea, I am coming to AZCOM, so do I just need to go get the titers, or should I waste time on looking for my shot records. Let me know so I don't go spinning my wheels. Help!! You kinda scared me with your post. 😱
Thanks.

I would assume they still require titers. If so, just go get 'em done. If you show immunity to a disease, obviously you either 1) had the shot or 2) had the disease or infection (thereby, not needing the shot). Either way, if they're still requiring the titers, the shot records are useless. There is a doc down here that will help you get it done through his office I think, but you'd have to ask student services about that. They'll let you start school without the titers being done, but they'll hound you about it till you do it...plus I don't think they'll let you start rotations if you don't have everything done.

I'd do it earlier than later. If you have decent health insurance they MAY pay for it (like I said, mine did, but most didn't). I think I remember people saying it cost them between 300 and 500 if their insurance wouldn't pick it up.

I started my hepatitis B series in December, because it takes 7 months to finish the series and then you have to wait 30 days to get the titer. I wanted to be able to get everything done under my current health insurance. I wish i would have started sooner so I could quit my job sooner!

The info I got from AZCOM said that there is a lab there that processes titers at a discount for students, so if your health insurance doesn't cover it, they suggested you wait until you get there.

i got my titer done and started to doubt if i had to have the titer for hep b AND the shots or will the titer suffice??

So are you going to just get all your shots taken care of then when you are in AZ just get your Titers through their service or are you going to do it all on your current insurace. It might be less expensive to do it that way. What does everyone think?
