When shadowing a doctor do you give a gift to show your appreciation for their help? If so what sorts of things have you guys given. Thanks so much!

I always send a thank you note after shadowing. That's worked well for me in the past.

It's generic but I gave my recommenders/shadow docs a decent bottle of wine...

One liked cigars so I got him those.

Chocolate--everyone likes, booze never hurt anyone either!

nobody likes a suck-up. A thank you note is sufficient.

Sucking up is when you are trying to get something out of someone. A box of chocolate or a bottle of wine AFTER the fact is not a suck up. It's a very nice thank you.

I agree with FloridaMadame. This is not sucking up. When you are shadowing with a physician, you are imposing on the time of a busy professional. Same with professors you may ask to send multiple letters of recommendation. A little something to say "thanks" is not out of line.

Thanks so much for the replys. I definantly not trying to suck up, just want to do things right!

ya... i never thought about it as a gift to give him for shadowing. but I gave him a xmas present. it was a novelty gift. a marble taj mahal. but i think it's nice to find an interest of his/hers and get them that. and if they're dull. then a bottle of wine. like a 50-75 merlot
