Giving up and moving on

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you like what you do, that's all that counts. However, I'd recommend making some long-range plans, since the "physically demanding" work you're doing today may no longer be appealing as you get older. If you've had it with healthcare, then explore other avenues: engineering, business, accounting, culinary work, or even less practical fields such as writing, music, etc. I am a firm believer in re-inventing ourselves every 10 years or so. The worst thing that can happen is for us to get stuck in a rut and become bitter seniors with a bunch of unfulfilled dreams.

I agree with jblil. If you like what you do, then no one has to convince you.

Also, have you seen a counselor or other healthcare personnel about how you're feeling? Do you have high anxiety? It seems like you may have some comittment issues and how you communicate your outlook in life may contribute to how people perceive you, which in turn, may affect promotions, etc.

I've re read your post a few times now. Honestly, I'm uncertain about what you want in life and that may have come across in your interviews as well. You turned down a DPT acceptance but are obviously still here on the forum....so maybe still considering that path? You seem upset you didn't get in the second time you applied, but to me you applied with a lot of red flags (the most meaningful maybe being that you didn't do well in PTA school). I have a history being a terrible student myself. I realize now it was because I was indecisive about what I wanted to do. I didn't have the strong commitment or passion to anything at the time and it showed. When i got serious about PT and found meaning in that field, I started turning around. The path must have value to you or you won't ever find your own success. I think you have to go beyond the application process and beyond the salary and think about what you really want to do. You have a decent amount of observation, so if PT isn't calling you at this point its likely not the best fit. I encourage you to keep shadowing and networking to see what else is out there for you. Best of luck!
