Glomerulonephritis/Nephritic Syndrome/Nephrotic syndrome

I'm getting confused between these terms:

My understanding was that glomerulonephritis = nephritic syndrome, BUT according to wiki glomerulonephritis is a term for a general glomerular dysfunction (including both nephritic and nephrotic syndromes). Furthermore, according to Goljan, a cause of chronic glomerulonephritis is focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (a NEPHROTIC syndrome) --> conclusion is that glomerulonephritis is NOT nephritic syndrome.

However, if you look up 'glomerulonephritis' in goljan, it also associates hematuria with glomerulonephritis (hematuria is usually associated with nephrotic syndrome, no?)

Would really appreciate it if anyone can help me understand this.

Nephritic syndrome = hematuria, coke-colored urine; nephrotic syndrome = proteinuria, loss of ATIII leading to hypercoagulable state

There are a couple different types of glomerulonephritis that fall under both categories, that's why your getting confused.

Nephritic syndrome is related to Poststrep GN, Rapidly Progressive GN, and Membranoproliferative GN while
Nephrotic syndrome is relate to Membranous GN.

Also, nephritic syndrome is related to vasculitis and schistocytes, RBCs that are being torn up while
nephrotic syndrome is loss of charge in the basement membrane due to heparin sulfate, causing >3.5 g/day of protein to fall into the urine
