Gmail - Inbox (1)
Started by RevDM
haha happens to me all the time.. usually junk too
hahaha i think i have a mini heart attack each time i see a new email. this can't be healthy
Haha applying for residency now and trust me, that feeling never changes. It's worse for me since I have gmail linked to my phone, so all day I check my phone every 15 minutes, and I see the inbox: 1 icon and usually it's some junk mail or facebook message lol. It's a real rollercoaster of emotions.
My school uses Gmail, so I turned on the "Title Tweaks" so it shows up as "Inbox (1) - [email protected] - X University" as opposed to "X University - Inbox (1) - [email protected]"
Gives me the headlines faster

Same here. Waiting on first invite.I get that same excitemeny, and then inevitably disappointment.
I made a GMAIL account basically specifically for the application cycle (and as a professional one for other things). I get so excited when my blackberry lights up for my gmail account. Sometimes it is just my sister emailing something and I get so mad haha.
I set the gmail email to an epic sounding tone just to make it more exciting. 😛
Unfortunately, I've only experienced one exciting moment thus far.

the good thing about gmail is that it allows for massive use of multiple inboxes, filters, and tags so that you don't have to get excited for nothing. i set it up so that nothing but app-related emails will trigger the inbox count. it's done wonders for keeping my heartbeat somewhat normal.
and then after making this thread I got excited because I saw Gmail - Inbox (1) on the taskbar haha... 🙁
me too.I don't understand why people are so masochistic sometimes. It makes life so much more clean and important if people just get rid of those damn facebook updates.
I personally don't find any enjoyment in getting email updates on who commented on my wall, let alone get cell phone updates about XXXX's relationship status.
Or maybe I'm just too boring...

My mom keeps sending me pictures of, like, cats rolling around in yarn.... oh yeah, then there's facebook... epic fail

I snap at family members for emailing me anything at all.
Me: Why are you emailing me?! WHY!? You have my home address!!!! Stop sending me emails!!
My mother probably thinks I'm a psychopath..
Haha that's like waiting by the phone for a girl to call and then getting mad if anyone else calls cause she could be calling and getting a busy signal at that very moment!
Gmail= Gangsta' mail!!
Anybody else see the title of this thread tabbed in their browser and instinctively freak out for a second?
No? Just me?
Man, I need like an anti-application anxiety intervention or something...

I see this in my sleep. I hope and yearn for it every time I open my inbox. And then it's always some trivial meeting announcement or Facebook notification. This application cycle is going to be the death of me.

seriously.... it's been almost a week since i've heard anything from anyone. and it seems as if SDN is a little dead too.
maybe everyone's pissed like me that Cal, Packers, and Chargers all lost. 😡
Yeah dude it's not gonna be a good season for the Chargers w/ all these injuries. I'm still hoping I'll have a chance to see my home team go to the super bowl before I have to leave.
i had a dream that I got an interview invite on gmail... and when I woke up and checked my inbox (1)...
... it was non-medical =[

Yes! Finally people who use logic and actually care about themselves. I was disillusioned just until now.
Now I am appeased.
🙂
Here's what is worse for me:
I used to be pre-law, so right about this time of year, had I stayed pre-law, I would be applying to law school. Well, many law schools send out recruitment emails or visit emails or whatever, and I still receive these emails from law schools. Everytime I see something from X University, I get really really excited and nervous, only to be disappointed moments later.

Haha, I guess I won't have this situation when I apply to medical school. Whenever I see an email I'm not too keen on reading, I just skip over it, so it still shows up as unread.. And then, over time, this accumulates, so my unread email count grows HUGE. Bad habit, but will probably cause less anxiety 🙂

Oh my gosh, the obsessive-compulsive side of me is about to die here. My sister does that too, and it drives me nuts. I have no idea why, but I am willing to check her messages for her!

My husband does that too... he has like 573 in his inbox and who knows how many more in spam...I guess opposites attract?!?!
If he ever has it open and I'm right next to him I want to snatch the laptop and delete all the junk!! That's so many that maybe one of MY interview invites could be lost in there!! jk, I wish...
Hah! I love this thread. I'm so addicted to my e-mail right now.. and having an iPhone doesn't help...
I wonder if I can just contact all of my schools and have them send all e-mails to:
"[email protected]" and "[email protected]" . That'd make life a lot easier.
Rejections can be forwarded to someone else.

A brilliant plan! 👍 🙂

I get pretty excited when an event happens (dinner party, lecture, etc.) so I can delete the email about it and have less in my inbox. I got it down to zero messages once .... it was a glorious six hours.

lol i doubt my gmail will ever read "Inbox - (1)" ever again. i have like 2k unopened messages. meh.
haha mine gets that way too... I get all my emails on my phone so I rarely log on. Once in a while I'll get on and just archive everything in the inbox so it looks somewhat organized 😛

You're not alone... although I'm not waiting for acceptance emails I thought I was logged into my school email (it's through gmail) and I'm waiting for someone to get back to me on something...

niiiice. i keep my inbox at 20 messages or less, depending on what i need right in front of me at any given time. other than that, i label and archive... i don't delete unless it's really crap.
EDIT: i never, ever leave any unread messages in my inbox! and i delete all spam messages as they come in! blasphemy to do otherwise!

I used to have a ton of unread messages, but then the lovely invention of email on my phone means I deal with each message as I get it, so I rarely have an unread mail.
PS- If we all hope really hard for interview invites today, maybe they will come!!!!

Why bother? I don't understand why you would even do anything to e-mails that are obviously worthless. Seems like a waste of time. It's not like you're going to go over your space limit.
On the waiting though, I can relate to the neurotics here. I can't seem to make myself be calm.
i saw Gmail - Inbox (1) this morning and remembered this thread 😡
then i saw it was an INVITE 😀 😀 😀
In other words, I'm really impressed with G-mail's spam filter, really keeps away the African bankers offering to unload 25,000,000 Euros to my account. Google should also open a Medical School imo.

This is hilarious. My friend and I had this exact same conversation the other day. But the best thing is when you come back from a day of classes and you see the gmail tab read "Inbox (8)" or "Inbox (9)" It's like Christmas! ...but then you find out that all those nicely wrapped presents were just filled with socks.

Hahah yes! I freak out anytime I see more than 2 new messages, and then it's generally just some coupon from some place I ordered something 2 years ago.
