I'm a fellow nontrad getting ready to prepare for the August MCAT and start applications for med school in June (while working full-time and juggling all the other fun stuff that nontrads get to do on top of school 🙂 ), and I'm a little overwhelmed.

I am having a little trouble getting focused (or rather even getting started) on everything that I need to get done pertaining to applying/MCAT, such as LORs, personal statement, setting up MCAT study schedule, etc. I am so bad at long-term planning, and I was wondering if any of you time management gurus out there might have some suggestions for goal planning/tracking software (or books, etc.) to help me easily plan things out and stay on track on a short-term basis. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help! 🙂

if you need software to get yourself organized your in trouble!! 😀

but really, it is a lot to think about. try not to think about EVERYTHING all at once. break it down a bit. personally, i live and die by my planner. it keeps me sane. you can get a good one in staples or office max for about $10. i get the one day on one page type, and literally write down everything i need to get done, and cross them off as i do them (and i mean everything from driving to school, eating dinner, studying, time w/friends & fam).

i'm a senior, taking the mcat this april and applying this year too, and between a busy last semester, working, mcat prep, plus my life, it is hard. SDN is amazing, and you can learn so much just from reading other people's posts. keep on top of yourself, and don't fall behind with your studies, or the application process. start getting those LOR's NOW!! they have held up many SDNer's applications.

try to take it one thing at a time, and you will be surprised how much you can accomlish. good luck! :luck:

IUgrad,

Since you are so hot, I can show you a trick. It's called YAHOO.com.

You can use their calendar tool to notice you what you should do each day.

Hey now! :meanie:

If you have outlook express or another calendar program on your computer, you can program activities, especially recurring ones with reminders.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I actually do use the calender program right now on my palm - I couldn't survive without it! I was more looking toward something to break the bigger job (MCAT preparation) into smaller more manageable tasks over months/weeks. I guess I should just suck it up and figure it out myself... 🙂

Thanks again!

The key to getting started is to set some very small, short term goals. Be reasonable with yourself as to what you can accomplish all at once.
Remember, not everything needs to be done right away.
