Goals for 2025: Future So Bright I've Got to Wear Shades

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Can I learn how to achieve the same zen-like state that I get with heavy exercise, with meditation instead?

If I can control what I think about, how to direct my attention in the face of distraction, nothing will phase me and I will be invincible...

when ive watched golfers tee off (ive never played pebble beach myself but have visited 4-5 times), about 20% would slice it horribly. like other fairway horribly.

with all the history, the pressure, people watching and hooting and hollering, probably all nerves. maybe consider teeing off with a "safe" club so your round doesnt start poorly.

putter wont get me very far down the fairway.....

What's the starting number? I would like the same but aside from just playing a ton more games and doing puzzles I don't have a concrete plan to improve. FWIW I'm around 1300 for daily games, so not great.
Peak was 1411 in rapid. I should probably switch to daily as it's too hard to have 20 uninterrupted minutes to play. I've lost too many games by having my toddler try to break down the bathroom door.

I'm definitely doing puzzles during downtime at work and also studying a few more openings. I typically gravitate towards Kings Indian as both white and black but am hoping to get comfortable with more.

not trying to virtue signal but instead make it public so it sticks more …. Volunteer my medical services to an indigent population outside of my normal clinic setting.
Why? If planning to do this in the US they are all on Medicaid but can’t find their cards or not willing to sit at the health department with a clear state of mind to get signed up. They can go to the hospital at anytime and be treated. You do enough for free at your office. It is just in the way of RAC audits, recoups, and failure to pay after prior auth as a prior auth is not a guarantee of payment.

Overall I agree with your sentiment that we as physicians do a lot of free care.

In this case though it’s a pretty niche market I would help. They don’t have Medicaid. Think day laborers and people who don’t have time to go to the doctor but want to keep on working to provider for their family.

And sometimes it can be larger international trips with well established organizations where there’s grant writing, drug procurement, education of staff, logistic coordination for any surgeries etc.

Having been on at least a dozen mission trips I highly recommend it. Not for pain but for anesthesia was my gig until COVID/kidnappings etc shut us down. If you get the opportunity to go on one that’s relatively safe it can help you gain perspective on how good we have it compared to the ret of the world. Or you can donate some cash which is probably better overall but I enjoyed the work and the amazing feeling of coming back to the US.

I’ve been interested but not sure where to start. Any advice on who never done it?

Hook up with an organization that regularly does these trips. I’ve gone with these two to Haiti

Professionally:
- get more comfortable with kyphoplasty
- finish 1st year of private practice without owing money
- convert to 1099

Personally:
- get the watch I want and maybe a second one
- +200 to my chess.com rating
- maintain a 50% savings rate
Deleted: Just needed to read further to get your rating. At some point I wouldn't mind trying a live tournament just to say I did it. The neighbor kid is 6 and likes to play so I have been getting back into a little.

Let us know how you do it. The easiest bump in pay would be if I actually got paid for everything.
Yep, I just got recouped $3000 for a scs trial I did over a year ago. We have in our notes no auth required and a reference number but recouped for “no auth on file”. They did auth the perm. So they don’t disagree with the decision to do a scs. Pretty infuriating.

2025 goals:
Dunk a basketball again
Purchase a PTR G3 clone
Get close to or under 10 minute half marathon pace

Oh, and conitnue the work grind I guess...
10 min is a great pace. Reducing risk of injury and enjoying the run.

Hk91. I trained a guy who had 2 of them and an Uzi amongst other rifles. Fun as heck at range.

I can get 4-5 miles at a mid 9 pace but seem to hit the wall pretty hard after that.

I was also looking at the HCAR, but good Lord that's and expensive gun. Maybe I'll treat myself in a couple years if the practice I will likely buy into pays off.

Looked up the HCAR. Cool but too expensive. I would just get a .308 AR and a browning BAR (the hunting rifle) in 30-06 for 1/3 the price.
