Hey SDNers.. i haven't been on here in almost a year i think. But i just wanted to see what all of you think about my situation. I have taken the DAT before got a 15 AA. Then I took it again and got a 16 AA, i was devasted teh second time I found that morning my father had passed away abroad. thus i made a 16. though i think i was prepared easily for a 19 atleast. but due to the consequences i couldn't do my best. Now almost taking a year off I have the drive again to take the DAT because this is what I really want to do. I don't have the greatest GPA either. but I am planning on going to fulltime sci classes in the fall to pull it up.

Share your thoughts..

I think you should do it, esp if you have that drive then go with it! It helps that you're taking science classes in the fall. 😀 Also, if they ask you why you did not do well on your first two DATs, then explain your case. I'm sure they'd completely understand and not count that against you. Good luck!!

If you still have the passion definitely go for it man, you can definitely do it, just work your butt off to get the best score you possibly can! 🙂

Well to start off with im sorry for your less, and its great to see that you have the drive to continue, so dont give up!! Taking more science classes would be good for your circumstance to help bring up your gpa, and when your ready for your retake then do it, but other then that dont take it unless your ready. Best of luck to you, and hopefully this time will be better! 🙂

Sorry for your loss.
I'm sure the admission officers will also understand why you did poorly on your DAT. However, if you're planing to retake the DAT (which I think you should, if this is what you wanna do in life) make sure you're aiming for 20+. Why do I think you need to score this high?

1- Like you said, your GPA isn't your strong point. So, you need a high DAT to compensate for that low GPA.

2- You need to show these people that you have the solid academic background to survive the dental school. It's only by scoring high on your 3rd DAT that you can shift the attention of the admission officers from your previous low scores to your most recent score. Be aware, that although the admission committee will understand the hardship you went through due to loss of your dad, if you end up scoring anything below 19 on your 3rd try, they'd look at your previous explanations as excuses. Three low DATs in a row wouldn't leave you any opportunity to explain anything. So, make sure you shine this time.

Good Luck👍
