Hi. I'm posting this because I would like some information. I'm not a pharmacy student so I know pre-pharmacy would be where I should start. The things is, I want to go into research, but I want to get my Pharm.D. first because I know eventually I'll want a change. My question is, how do I go from Pharm.D. to having my Masters in Pharmacology or some other? I'm not sure if I'm making much sense or if I'm coming across without much confusion. I called a school and asked if I could get into their Masters program and a lady told me "no" because my credits from the other school won't transfer, so I should attend their school from the start. I have no problem with the school, I just want to be close to home if anything. Is that my only way? Can I get my Pharm.D. and take some kind of exam, like GRE, (I'm not sure if the GRE would be what I have to take, but just wanted to use it as an example of a major test to get from one point to the next) to get my Masters? Any kind of information will do.

If you are interested in research, why not try to do a combined PharmD/PhD or PharmD/MS program? Look into that.

A fellowship after pharmacy residency is a great way to go into research. My career goals are definitely more as a research scientist than a regular pharmacist. Its important to remember that a PharmD or an MD does not necessarily qualify someone to do research.... for instance the FDA says its alright for PharmDs ( and of course MDs) to conduct clinical trials, but in fact you have to be very qualified.
