Hey all,

Currently studying for the DAT. Wanted to take it during the summer, but unexpected things happened, and as a result, my study schedule was thrown off. I'm trying to get back on track and take it by latest, October 2014.

I'm starting my masters in September. I'm thinking of attending part-time for the first semester (enrolling in only one course), so I can study for the DAT with full attention. And then when the spring semester rolls around, go back to being full time.

Would any masters student/former grad student comment on this? Or anyone in general advise me on this route? I feel like this is the best thing to do without compromising grad school grades and DAT scores.

PS - I want to complete the masters in 3 semesters or one full year.

Thank you all!

First of all if it is a traditional masters ,
You won't be able to complete it in that time. You need to do a thesis project , and trust me , it takes time. Second of all , I would go full time, and take your DAT in January, so that you can study during winter break. Dedicate yourself to your masters and go full time. Going part time for masters won't do you any good , if you are trying to get Into dental. So just go full time and then take your exam prolly in late January or February. If you take it in February you should have at least 2 months of studying which should be enough.

It's actually a SMP, and the program is 30 credits. I'm not doing the thesis option. I know myself and I feel like studying during the winter break is something undoable because I don't do well if I have a time crunch (one month). I tried that in undergrad, to study during my winter break and it was a disasters. I was fried from the fall semester and didn't have the mental ability to study 4 weeks intensely for the DAT.

I suggested this option because I can gradually continue studying, and still be a grad student. Once the Fall semester ends, and spring starts, I'll be ready to load up my credits (9-12) and just focus on that. With the DAT out of the way! Our spring semester starts in January, fyi.

Thank you for your response. I will def take your advice into consideration. Much appreciated!
