•Okay, hmm...let's see. there usually are several apartments that are around Little Italy and behind UH hospitals (this is the Fairview / Murray Hill Rd area). One bedroom apartments around there cost about $550-$600 for an unfurnished apartment, included: water and heat (sometimes hot water tank). Usually you have to pay phone, gas, electricity. No A/C or DSL, some have a cable jack, some don't. Not the greatest, but if you're staying for awhile and are willing to fix it up, you could make it homey. Are a bit dirty, but liveable. Others on Euclid Heights or Waldorf towers are also rather expensive like $700-$800 per month.
The ones in a tower complex that have DSL and are more luxurious cost around $700-800 per month, but some if these (Fairhill towers) are a dive. Sometimes there are sublets in houses (or like 4-5 students share a house) that are awesome and go for around $300 per room, I'm thinking of the ones on South Overlook and near Cedar road. Good, clean secure area as well.
You could also look around Coventry, but those are ..eh...
I'd recommend starting to look around now, or late June so that gives you like 4-5 weeks before the med school starts, cuz once August hits, these places will be gone.•••••I didn't find this to be the case at all. YOu can find apts in little italy for less that that, but they tend to be on the sketchy side, at least the ones I have seen.
Personally, I live in a two BR, wood floors, high ceilings, fireplace, DW/S/R, allows pets (i have a dog), heat, water and parking included, ON coventry, brand new kitchen and bath and it is only 750. I found it June 22 on my one day apartment hunting trip. I did look at a lot of yucky apartments, but I didn't think it was bad at all compared to where I'm from. The housing market isn't at all as bad as my undergrad where you started to look in november for the following august... You should be fine looking in June. I have a friend who found his place after school started and it is fine.
Personally, I wouldn't want to live in the Waldorf Towers "med school dorm" Too expensive for the generic accomodations... Most of the apartments in CH are reasonable, and have a lot of character.
Check with the Cleveland Heights relocation service also. Marlene can hook you up with a roomate, but she has a more limited selection of apartments than the relocation service does. They will give you a list of landlords who meet your criteria and have availability.
I think next year we start on the 5th... As first years, they will ease you into the curriculum with a long orientation, and an easy first block (FMDM).
Good Luck guys! Looking forward to seeing you next year!
