It depends......does it matter for what? Anyone can be a very successful surgeon/pediatrician/cardiologist/whatever no matter where they go. The main difference is if you want to make your career as a researcher - then going to a top school does allow you to get into a more research-oriented residency program.
Also, it's probably true that any advantage you gain by going to a higher-ranked medical school is limited to the top 15-20 schools. After that...I really doubt it makes much difference.
Makes a huge difference. Go somewhere that you'll be happy. Happy and unhappy are different.

I am actually unhappy no matter what though so I guess it doesnt matter.
It matters, even if you're baseline is unhappy. Know why? 'Cause of the cheddar.
You can go to, for example, Emory, and take out loans to meet their first year budget of ~60K, or you can go to No Name State School, and pay 35-40K. And you still get the same two letters after your name.

go somewhere you will be well prepared for internship. this is funny because sometimes the students at "bigger name" schools are "unable to place a central line" because they never got a chance to do one. food for thought.
That's stupid. Celebrity endorsments aren't the way to go anymore to help sell products. Unless you're ultra marketable like Jordan was, or Lebron James and Shaq are now. Michelle's endorsment will do nothing in persuading me to buy any product.

I doubt you're in their target market, though. 😉

Hi there,
Your school does not matter so much as your performance at that school. The good performers at a lower-ranked school are going to go much further than that poor performers at a higher ranked school. If you are in the top 10% of your class and have good board scores, you can determine your fate in terms of residency.
If you are a good performer at a lesser-known school you can really boost your chances at a top residency by doing an audition rotation there and catching the eye of the program director/department chair. Every program is looking for excellent students who more often than not, translate into excellent residents.
It is not your school but your performance. Everyone cannot attend Hopkins & Stanford but many people from lesser known schools end up matching in good residencies. Everyone from Hopkins or Stanford does not end up doing residency at Hopkins or Stanford.
