Why does the right come off the ivc and the left come off the left renal vein?
Google seems to point to them originally being symmetric but then getting distorted during construction of the ivc, but if the ivc was constructed from primitive hepatic veins I'm not sure how I see this happening. Did they start as similar to the right side and then get pushed down, inferior to where the left renal vein lies?
