hey guys,

i will retake the pcat again in october i am looking for a good book to review any recommend?

i took the pcat in june and the main book i study from is Kaplan 2007. I think this is still a good source but I would like some additional book.

thanks

Honestly, I don't think there are any good books per say.

I'd try to focus on areas that you didn't know in the exam that you took and hope it will be similar.

Cliffs PCAT is decent. BUt math is a lot easier and chem seems harder.

I think doing practice is really important. So dig out your old textbooks if you have them or look in bookstores for review guides of the subjects. For practice tests, use Cliffs or ARCO.

Honestly I spent like $100 in prep material for the PCAT in August but really didn't use half of it.

For chemistry and calculus just go back through old textbooks, or even online study guides (free and easily accessible) and just refresh yourself on all the material, maybe focus on the stuff you had a hard time with in class.

For vocab... about all you can do is study word lists. Try to memorize about 5-10 words a day, thats not really too hard.

One thing that was pretty beneficial were the "Sparknotes Study Cards for Biology". They were basically 600 typed up flash cards that covered just about every Biology topic, including some A+P. I know 600 seems like a lot to memorize, but about 1/3 of those you can put to side because they are so basic. They have them for Chemistry also. They're like 9 bucks a piece if you look around.

I didn't have any Organic before taking the test but I self-studied some nomenclature and functional groups, and just that helped greatly. I found online sources for that but also bought "Organic Chemistry for Dummies," which is a pretty good book.

Here are my recommendations:

Biology: Good general biology textbook
Chemistry: Examkrackers Chemistry (1001 and Review)
Verbal: Examkrackers + old College Board SAT prep book
Organic: Examkrackers
Math: a little book from each relevant math textbook

As you can see, I like Examkrackers.😀

I posted the GRE top 200 with words mixed in that are common on the pcat earlier in this forum. Just try searching "GRE."

I just got the Examkrackers MCAT 1001 General Chemistry book in the mail and it's very very good. Doesn't weigh 5 pounds either which is nice.

The old SAT had analogies and sentence completions in its verbal section. Since the words used in that exam was comparable to today's PCAT, the official resource for the SAT back then will help people having trouble understanding how to approach the sentence completions and analogies. However, you do have to remember that the vocabulary will be usually easier.
