I've heard from a couple of people at my school that its possible to do very well on Step 1 with just first aid, brs/goljan path, a question source and maybe brs physio. Obviously, you have to pretty much know them cold. Does this sound realistic?

Yes, if you know those sources "cold" (ie understand not just memorized) you can get a 260+.

Honestly, I am finding that in RR Path, I end up learning all the immuno I need to know (the HY aspects anyway). I read thru Levinson's and then the chapter on Immunopath, and I liked it better via Goljan, but I'm sure I understood it b/c of Levinson's. All the main points showed up in Goljan. Also, after going thru 1st Aid Micro, Goljan reinforces it clinically. If anything, I'd probably consider reading HY CMB, but I am not sure if it's necessary. So yeah, I'm really considering consolidating my studying to 1st Aid/MedEssentials (MedEssentials esp. for the Behavioral part), RR Path, HY CMB, and BRS Physio ... and the rest Kaplan Qbank and eventually UW.

What else do you like in MedEssentials? I bought it but haven't done much with it...

I liked the physiology section as well. I'm not so sure about the pharm, haven't looked thru it with that book (I've just been using Boards and Wards Pharm for class/current boards prep, which I love btw) ... but I would also imagine that it would be good for pharm as well. I have heard that all the drugs needed is in First Aid so it may not be needed for pharm; however, I felt the physio was better in MedEssentials than it was for 1st Aid. I'm not going to use path a whole lot out of 1st Aid or MedEssentials outside of a quick glance thru to make sure im familiar with the topics they suggest are HY. My main thing for Path is RR, which I love more and more --- as I just got done reading thru Neoplasms chapter, I realised that a lot of what's in HY CMB for the chapter on mutations, CAs, DNA repair enzymes, etc. is discussed here as well. Goljan is the man.

Cool, thanks for the tip. I had not start doing Anatomy/Histo/Embryo yet (will start that tomorrow), so I'll take a look and see.

How did you do on your Step I?
