Now that this semester is my last semester for finishing pre-reqs, I am officially going to apply to pharmacy school. During the spring, I will be waiting to see if I got accepted. I am interested in working on a bachelor's degree in the mean time though, just in case things don't go my way and I don't get accepted into pharmacy. Is it worth it? I would have to relocate. I have on average a accumulative gpa of 3.5 and a poor pcat score which I am retaking...I have just 10 volunteer hours.I do not know if I'm gonna make it so I want to go for this as my back up but I'd like your advice.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Keep working on your bachelor's.

if relocation is being considered, I'd have to sit down and try to really figure out how likely pharmacy school admission will be for you. It's never cheap to move.

do or do not. Finish your bachelors. 😉

I'd plan on finishing the bachelors unless your school is giving you a warm and fuzzy about getting in.

Please correct me if I'm wrong - I think you're asking about three options:
- Move for Spring 2012 semester to take classes towards a bacchelors degree. If accepted to pharmacy school, go to pharmacy school in Fall 2012.
- Move for Spring 2012 semester to take classes towards a bacchelors degree. If not accepted to pharmacy school, continue for bacchelors for Fall 2012 & Spring 2013. Presumably, reapply to pharm school for Fall 2013 matriculation. Will this option allow you to finish your bacchelors degree before Fall 2013?
- Do not move for Spring 2012. If accepted, go to pharm school Fall 2012. If not accepted...? Work on bacchelors in Fall 2012 & Spring 2013?

My major question is - what are you going to do if you DON'T move?

Could that time be spent valuably? Would finding work as a pharm tech & volunteering strengthen your future 2013 application more than taking an extra semester of upper level classes? (Really, the difference we're talking about is whether, if you don't get into pharm school, you will take classes at Uni in Spring 2012 or not - you will still go to Uni for Fall 2012/Spring 2013 if you aren't at pharm school, right?) What options would working as a pharm tech open to you that you don't have now? Have you taken student loans that require you to stay a student until you graduate from pharmacy school (such that you can't take a semester unenrolled without having to begin payback)?

Also, will it break the bank to move for Spring 2012? Will the stress of moving be offset by the contingency plan it opens up (work towards bacchelors)? Would you be more stressed out if you didn't work towards your bacchelors?

Are there any local options that would allow you to stay where you are & work on your bacchelors for a semester? If you don't get into pharm school, you can always move for Fall 2012/Spring 2013.

These are the sorts of questions that immediately spring to my mind when considering a decision like this. I hope it's helpful.

This ^^^ was exactly the approach that I was taking. I currently am doing my volunteer hours and have decided that I'd rather do that than become a pharmacy technician for the meanwhile. It's because I already have a job and I am involved with several clubs at school so I honestly do not think I'd be able to find the time.

Moving for spring 2012 to the Uni wouldn't really hurt that much. I'd find out within 5 months if I got accepted, and if not, I'd reapply for fall of 2013 and continue working on my bachelor's degree. More than likely I'm going for chemistry or biochemistry. So I have only taken up to ORG 2...IDK how long it would take but I imagine it would not be too bad. But yes you were correct as soon as I were to find out I was accepted I'd just finish the semester in whatever courses I was doing and start pharmacy school right after.

Yes there is a local University here whereby they have biology and chemistry up to the masters level but my parents have been advising me to transfer out from this region if I'm going to a Uni. Also the one here doesn't have biochemistry so I'm unsure of what to do. It was more of like a personal choice to choose the other Uni and the fact that they had biochemistry over there which is what I'm leaning towards. That's really the only reason why.
