I just wanted some input on good questions that could be asked when having lunch with dental students on interview day along with what should be asked at the end of the formal interview? Of course things about the institution and organizations, etc. Any suggestions from current dental students or those of you that have interviewed already.

Thanks!

The question I asked the faculty interviewers was "Who is your best student and why?" I got some good responses from that one; one even was surprised and said it was a great question. If you have a student doing an evaluation interview, you may also ask them about their favourite faculty member.

That's a really good question to ask! Kind of gives you an idea of what their expectations for their students are, exactly. Thank you!

This is a great question!

I always ask my interviewers "What are some characteristics of students who are successful here?" and, "What advice would you give me as a prospective dental student?/What do you wish you had known going into dental school?"

Also, I've gotten positive responses when asking faculty interviewers some variation of,"What brings you to work everyday?" 🙂

Those are all great questions too, I like the question regarding their own experiences. That will be a thoughtful thing to ask

I asked all the people I interviewed with if the number of students in each class is an ideal number.
I interviewed at a school that had 51 students in the class. To me, that's fairly small, but all the professors and students I spoke to said that was an ideal number.
🙂

When I've had job interviews, I've learned the most about the company by asking "what do you like best about working here". You could translate that to "what do you like best about attending this dental school" for students.

Used this today in a different way: "what are some qualities of your best students" and the 4th year interviewing me lost it he's like "wow that's a great question" and the regular interviewer also looked surprised and had to think about it then she answered "compassionate and responsible..." Then continues to explain how that was a great question. Thanks to you, I might have landed myself an acceptance because of that question.

That is so awesome! That's exactly the way I was thinking of asking the question in my interview 🙂 Thanks for sharing that.

Good luck, it's a great question based on the interviewer's faces. Let me know what the response is like at your interview. Thanks to OP who created the question too, it's great.
