I was kind of hoping to take the DAT like in June or July.... is that too late? An admissions officer at Boston said that as long as it was before Aug. it was good... But... should I risk it and just take it that late? I took a Kaplan prep course and I didnt do so hot on the practice tests... 😳 🙄 Did anyone else just take it once?

June or July is fine, since AADSAS won't even be close o sending our package to the schools yet. I wouldn't wait until August if possible. I took a Kaplan course and never scored higher than a 19 before the real DAT. Study hard and you'll do fine.

you will be fine. take the DAT when you are ready and just make sure you tone down the nerdiness. it is unsexy and uncool[/QUOTE]

with all due respect and modesty, you are being a bit unreasonable and you are displaying some paranoia. "was kind of hoping to take the DAT like in June or July.... is that too late?"....yeah that's too too late. it's so late that you'll never get in. you're being a bit silly cus YOU KNOW VERY WELL THAT IT IS SOOOOO NOT LATE TO TAKE IT IN JUNE.

Well sorry but I didnt. Im actually new at this dental application process. Im the only one in my DAT class that is taking it that "late"... my friends are taking it in March or April...

😛 😛

oops i quoted myself

ok if my "tone" looked paranoic online, than thats too bad, i was merely asking a question in a predent forum which is supposed to be about that kind of stuff anyway- and im not worried about the test i just also didnt want to take it late enough so i can take it again in case i do badly... since you have to wait a period of time before you can retake it...

its easy, that once youre done and over with the process, to dismiss someone who is just starting out their application ... i think thats worse than "nerdiness"

But whatever, thanks anyway. 😳

For one thing good about DAT is that you can put off your test date as often as you wish to within a year from the day you register for the test. Try be ready for the test by May, cuz you will never know whether a retake will be necessary.

take it when you feel you're ready. You do NOT want to take it in June and get an 18 when you can take it in August and get a 21. It really depends on how you want to plan things out...do you feel you can prepare enough before June to take it in June? or do you feel you need to study a bit during the summer? I took it in August to take advantage of the summer vacation to study, and I was extremely satisfied with my scores. I don't think I would've done nearly as well if I took it in June.

Yea I think I will wait until late July or August because I'd rather get one good score a bit late...than one early bad one. 😳

Ooo is there a karate club in columbia? 😛

Take the test when you feel ready. You can get an idea of how you would do on the real exam through your Kaplan diagnostic tests. So keep studying and taking as many practice tests as you can. Also try to make a schedule fir yourself and stick to it. As others have noted you want to take the test once and do well in it. You are much better of takng it a little later and scoring high on all the sections.

I did not take the exam until early September, and though many will consider it very later, I had no problems getting interview and acceptance. Though I must note that by the time my application was complete UoP was only interviewing for alternate spots. So to maximize your chances take it early and apply early.

Also remember that it takes AADSAS at least a month (for me close to 2) to verify your GPA and mail out your application. So you can submit your application and take the DAT a month later and chances are all the material will be received at the same time.

To fighterspirit: Oh how quickly you forget! Not long ago we were going through the same thing, unsure if we are late or all the interview spots are filled. And this forum was created to voice your concerns and questions. The OP has a legitimate question about the timing of the application cycle and there is NO need to patronize him/her.

slow down big boy....1-have not forgotten 2-was not patronizing 3-yes, the OP was being paranoid when he considered the admissions officer's advice as a "risk being late"....and yes, the OP was being unreasonable when he/she said "I was kind of hoping to take the DAT like in June or July.... is that too late? ".... 4- i kindly ask of you now not to patronize me 😳 😳

I didn't take the course, but used the "blue book" and found the Kaplan practice tests to be harder than the real thing. The diagnostic test they use was much harder. I think I scored a 17 on it and scored a 22 on the actual DAT a week later.
