Hey guys,

So after transferring to Pepperdine, my first year here I got two B's. After that, I only got A's and A-'s. Now in my senior it. It happened. After 4 semesters, I got a B+ in an upper division sports medicine course. I went in with an A- and came out with a B+. After crying my eyes out, I have come to my senses and would like some advise on what this means and how this will impact me. My current GPA is 3.759 and I wanted to get it to a 3.9 by Spring, but after that B+, it looks like that is just not happening. Any words of wisdom?

After crying my eyes out
Don't do that. As I tell my kids, save your tears for the important stuff.

I have come to my senses
Good!

what this means
Nothing.

how this will impact me
It won't.

Any words of wisdom?
Search SDN. There are more than enough threads just like this one -- posted in the last week, even! -- to explain exactly why you're fine. Pick yourself up and soldier on.

Pat yourself on the back for getting a B+!! Your life isn’t over. You’ll still get into medical school.

Can confirm life is not over for you.

Got a B- in organic chemistry.

Currently have a number of interviews. No one has ever mentioned it.

Do not consider it a loss of face or a sign of weakness. And chill.
EDIT: were you working under the erroneous assumption that med schools would consider this a sign that you couldn't handle med school? If so, you're wrong.

If you're a perfectionist, lost that that attitude STAT.

Losing the perfectionist attitude was one of the hardest things about starting med school. You’ll literally drive yourself crazy before you realize you can’t know everything.

Unfortunately, the perfectionists at schools with ranked P/F or graded preclinical curricula will likely suffer even more when they realize that their grades play a major role in getting AOA, which matters a lot if they're gunning for competitive specialties/residencies.

This is why worrying about B+ right now is unwise when far worse things are bound to happen in medical school.

Damn you're screwed!!!!!

Ok I thought this thread was a joke but everyone is responding like it's serious so yeah it's no big deal dude

I already have come to terms with the fact that I won’t be getting AOA. Can’t dwell on it at this point.

To the posters above: Please stop giving OP false hope. Even if there were Caribbean podiatry schools, there's no way he'd get in with his 3.8 GPA.

OP, have you heard of naturopathic medicine? Shadow a reflexologist, memorize the names of all the healing crystals, get a 520+ on the MCAT, and you'll probably have a 50/50 shot at getting into the University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine.

As you will learn in naturopathic medical school, the best cure for pre-med neuroticism is rose quartz.

Good luck!

I'd suggest you seek a psychiatrist if receiving a B+ gives you this much anxiety, but in all reality, I received 4 B- and a 3.4 GPA and have received acceptances. Don't worry be happy

Im usually the first one to recommend Podiatry school, but I am concerned with OPs GPAs. A B+ in a sports medicine class simply wont fly, You need to have gotten an A++ in this class. Its the foundation that Medical and Podiatry schools build their curriculum on, and has at least a 83% rate of determining weather or not a student can pass boards. I cannot recommend any type of medical school, even Podiatry schools have standards.

Your only path forward at this point is to submit your application to pharmacy schools. Hopefully they can teach you something about chill pills.

I got two B-‘s in pre-reqs.....and will be matriculating to my top choice MD school next summer. You’ll be fine!!

I sense that some of his angst is because he’s at a Calif undergrad. If he’s also a Calif resident, then he’s surrounded with the intense pressure that being good enough is often not enough.

That said....His stats are fine. There are plenty of med students with Bs and Cs and worse on their transcripts.

Now what??? You should just drop pre-med and hop on the line at McDonalds

Can also confirm that you will survive. I’m currently a 2nd year MD student and had more than one B on my transcript. You will be okay- breathe and enjoy the holidays 🙂

Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days
When our momma sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out
I mean a 3.6+ and a 510+ still has a pretty good chance at an interview these days, so all hope is not lost.

Doom shall descend upon you like a shroud, and never again will you feel the warmth of the sun. Animals will avoid you as you stride the earth, sensing your academic taint. Your fantasy football teams shall suffer a plague of injuries and poached RB touchdowns. Any food you consume will taste like Arby's roast beef sandwiches. Friends will abandon you, and you will find comfort nowhere except the your real estate agent. Every shower you take will be low-flow, and every package delivered to your home will be stolen by meth-heads.

Next time try not to ruin what's left of your life.

Now what? I guess take a cyanide pill. Your life in medicine is a sack of rocks now. J/K.

Got a C+ in Genetics and OChem II. Attend a competitive MD school. Just. Go. HAM. In every regard. And breathe.
