Got an F in Physics 1 and D in statistics ..If I retake them and get C's is that fine?? so far my science gpa without physics is about 3.9.

How did this happen?! Those 2 classes are not joke classes when it comes to admission review. Unless you can totally erase the record of getting an F & D in those 2 classes, I would say you seriously handicapped yourself. Sorry man.

My old school was notoriously hard when it came to sciences and math.. Ended up getting a horrible physics professor, was supposed to get a C he ended up failing most students. For stat i took it as online class and that was my mistake.. I doubt i handicapped anything.. Most schools don't even require physics

Most of the public schools I applied required physics. The good ones also required statistics. Science classes are the core of pharmacy school, and bad grades in these are not good predictors.

Put yourself in an admission committee's shoes -- you see a student who had an F & D on 2 science/math classes, not some liberal art/PE class. What would you think? Especially when number of applicants far out number the number of class room spots?

I think you need to talk to your professors/dean.

Well considering your GPA is 3.9 w/o those classes, I think you are doing pretty well. People still get in when they fail classes, so you still have a chance. A C is the minimum so really show you mastered the material the second time around and strive for higher than a C. Though you could probably still get in with a few Cs, it's always better to get a higher grade.

I'm not being a pessimist, just being a pragmatist. I made sure I didn't get an F or even a C because the process is indeed very competitive. Small private schools might be different, but those lack appeal to due to the huge cost and lower ranking. So that's a still handicaps even if you get into those.

Keep in mind that the rule of thumb for student loans is that total amount should not exceed 1 year's income. Going to private school at $30+K a year, the numbers just don't look pretty like a $15K public school.

As harsh or repetative as this sounds, you should repeat those courses & get better grades. I think you should do fine the second time if you know what to expect. I too have had my ups & downs, but I've always corrected those mistakes on my transcript. You should do the same if you want to give yourself a sure shot. That's if you're lacking confidence with the grades you hold at this moment though. But I can't stress this enough...if there's an F or D on your transcript, especially in pre-requisite courses, take them again!

I agree. He should retake the class. But unless he can erase the record of ever getting F and D from the transcript, there is going to be some major damage to his chances of getting into a good school.

Again, retaking is better than not retaking, but some damage is already been done.

I have a couple of F's on my transcripts which i received in my 2nd quarter of my first year. Although it looks really bad, you're going to have to retake and receive an A on it and have a damn good reason why you failed on those courses

If i retake these courses I will get the grades replaced on my transcript..grade shows but doesn't count towards gpa

I hate to tell you this but if you retake the courses (which you should definitely do) those bad grades most likely won't go away. I retook some courses and my school replaced my grade completely, but most (not all) Pharmacy schools and PharmCAS will recalculate your GPA, averaging the two grades together. This is what happened to me and I was expecting it.
Also in your PharmCAS application you'll have to state what your original grade was and I would not recommend lying or omitting it. This would be why many posters are suggesting you should aim for A's not C's. This way when PharmCAS and the Pharmacy schools factor your GPA, those classes will come out around the C range.

Although those grades look bad I don't think you should hang yourself. You should retake them and get at least a B though. If your gpa is really a 3.9 retaking those classes should help save your gpa a little. If you have a well rounded application and a good pcat score this will be less of an issue as well.

dude don't let all these people that are bashing you get you down....i like part of your attitude where you arguing with that one kid and called him pessimistic, but i don't get the other part of you that wants to aim for C's when you retake them! What gives??? First off, I don't think those classes are the most important so It's def better then failing orgo or some chemistry class, but I had some W's and D in pre-req's and I still got accepted, you just have to make sure you get an A the next time or at least a B, however a C+ will just look terrible after failing. Anyways that's my two cents, but good luck in them, obv you can do it if your gpa is a 3.9 in your other pre-req's!!

I'm currently a sophomore in college right now. I did PSEO my senior year of high school at a community college and ended up with a 2.5 gpa there (a D in freshmen composition). I was having a hard time in school because of the death of my father. He passed away the summer before I started the PSEO program. After my freshmen year in college I received a 3.0 gpa. And last semester I received a 3.76 gpa and made it to the dean's list. I'm anticipating at least a 3.5 for this current semester. My cumulative gpa (both PSEO and current) is 3.04 although without my PSEO gpa, I would have a 3.25. I want to take a few classes over again to attain a better grade. I have no experience in the pharmacy field yet and have not taken the PCAT. I am extremely interested in going to pharmacy school, but I was wondering.. would my poor gpa from PSEO effect my chances of getting accepted?

I've taken both the on-line version and the in-class version of statistics and I thought the on-line version was a joke. I don't know what problems you ran into but I was on auto-pilot the entire semester.

It was an online course..taught online and tests taken in classroom... The professor gave the whole class bad grades..Highest grade was c+

yes you should retake both of those classes and get the highest grade possible. Show the adcom that you did the necessary steps to improve in those courses dont just settle for C's. And since all or most of the schools require statistics and physics those are extremely important classes that will be heavily considered in giving a person an interview. regardless of your science GPA or what not they guage people on how they do on the pre-reqs so do what you can to get A's the second time around!!

A bit hard to believe that your science GPA is 3.9 and you proceeded then to fail 2 classes. I guess you must have taken them together in a semester that was way overloaded. In that case. Retake them. And when it comes time for apps and they ask for you to explain bad grades tell them about why. If you don't retake those courses, I'd say your chances are pretty bad. A lot of schools will look at the new grade and disregard the old one

I do not think you should aim for C's rather A's. If you are re-taking a class there is really no excuse for getting a C. The ad com does not care about background stories of your professor being harsh and mean because in the end it's a letter grade that sticks out on your transcript.

In regard to your 3.9 GPA without physics I am sure many of us would have exceptional GPAs if we could only "remove" one or two classes we did not do well in. 😛
