I just graduated from undergrad on December. well, long story short, I got d in genetics and c in immunobiology and biochemistry lab that will bring my gpa down from 3.76 to 3.49. Although I have a legitimate reason why I struggled (I had to help my family business, like in a manager position), would it really hurt my chance of getting in? I got 4 interviews so far, no acceptance made yet.

Re check your calculations, although the drop in gpa may be the least of your problems.

Did you do the academic update?

If you did the academic update, I don't think you will get in this cycle.
If you did NOT do the academic update, you might be able to get an acceptance. However, you might also get rescinded for getting a D. I would see whether you can take genetics again at your school (or online) and you will have to call the schools to see what their policy is.
Good luck.

Damn that sucks, you might have wasted this cycle.

Yall are harsh. I would guess that if genetics isnt a prereq, you will be fine. Don't stress so much.

well. i already did do the academic update. i thought its mandatory isnt it?

i just checked with the schools that i have interviewed with. they dont require genetics as prereq

Dont let these people scare you. Just relax and it will work out how it's supposed to.

That's not good advice to just relax and assume everything will be fine. It's a legitimate concern that he could get an acceptance rescinded (or not offered) because of that D, especially since he's already done the academic update. It would likely be a good idea to either call the school and get advice/explain your situation, or retake the course. If they don't care about a D, you'll be fine. Your GPA, even at a 3.49 isn't a problem, but that D looks bad.

Have you tried explaining the situtation to the prof maybe?

I'd be letting schools know about this ASAP. You want them to find it out from you, not as a surprise when they get your final transcript.

I'd send an extremely sincere and apologetic e-mail and explain your situation. Make sure you convey how important your acceptance is to you and it wouldn't hurt to mention how hard you worked in the class (I'm at least hoping that's the case). I'd ask them for what they would like for you to do, and stress that you are willing to rectify the situation.

This isn't something you should just relax about and hope it slides. They have plenty of other applicants who could take your spot, and the probably don't have a D and two Cs on their winter transcript. Unless you are incredibly sincere and apologetic, it is going to look like you got lazy. I don't know if that's actually the case or not, but this isn't a good situation to be in. It might not be a deal killer, but it certainly isn't ideal.

I suppose the academic update isn't *required,* but IMO, that's a moot point. They're going to get your final transcript one way or another.

If you need help writing something, I'm extremely good with these sorts of things. Send it to me in a PM and I'd be more than happy to help. I've helped others with LOIs, updates, and whatnot with good results.
